Asetek Inc., the world’s leading supplier of liquid cooling for the computer industry and the inventor of sealed loop, all-in-one liquid cooling, announced today that Appro, a leading provider of supercomputing solutions, will utilize Asetek’s RackCDU™ hot water liquid cooling to cool Appro’s new Xtreme-Cool™ Supercomputer.
Asetek’s RackCDU™ is a hot water, direct-to-chip, data center liquid cooling system that enables cooling energy savings exceeding 50% and density increases of 2.5x when compared to modern air cooled data centers. RackCDU removes heat from CPUs, GPUs, Memory modules and other hot spots within servers and takes it all the way out of the data center using liquid.
With Appro’s Xtreme-Cool™ Supercomputer, 85% of the total server heat generated is cooled by Asetek’s warm water liquid cooling RackCDU™ system. As the servers are cooled by warm water, no power goes in to actively chilling the liquid. This means that 85% of all server generated heat is cooled by free ambient air.
The net result of using Appro’s Xtreme-Cool™ with Asetek’s RackCDU™ in a data center is at least 50% savings on the cooling power bill, often times with immediate payback. Because the hot water generated from the RackCDU™ can be reused for facilities heating or cooling, data center operators can achieve EREs of less than 1.
“Asetek is proud to make RackCDU™ available for the first time to the High Performance Computing industry with such a quality brand as Appro” said André Sloth Eriksen, Founder and CEO of Asetek. We have worked closely with Appro on what has become a very elegant integration and we are excited to see it in the market”
“Some of our competitors attempt to remove 100% of the heat to the liquid, making not only their solutions extremely costly, but also restricting serviceability,” said Daniel Kim, CEO of Appro. “Our approach with Asetek’s RackCDU is simple and cost effective while providing a huge savings on the power cost to run the data center as well as reducing green house emissions . We have seen a strong interest for our new Xtreme-Cool™ Supercomputer with Asetek’s RackCDU and I expect a significant share of our sales in the coming years will be based on this solution.”
Appro plans to showcase its next generation system at SC12 in Salt Lake City, Utah - November 12-15. Formal presentations and a live technology demonstration will be available at the Appro booth #2443. The system will have limited production availability starting in early Q1 2013.
