Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced it has reached an agreement with Powerchip Technology Corporation, a DRAM manufacturer based in Taiwan. The agreement provides for Kingston to acquire certain assets of Powerchip, and to receive foundry services for a period of two years.
Kingston engaged the services of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP as its legal advisor. Akin Gump guided Kingston through a complex transaction that involved an open bidding process, multiple intellectual property cross licenses, significant international tax implications, and numerous cross border transaction issues. Kingston is celebrating 25 years in the memory industry. The company was founded on October 17, 1987, and has grown to become the largest third-party memory manufacturer in the world.
