Acer Smart Cloud Builder has been chosen by Thailand’s Rangsit University to host its administration and research applications. With this private cloud, the institution expects to further enhance operational and academic efficiency, minimize the resources needed, and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The solution also provides the flexibility to scale up for future expansion needs. Acer’s cloud builder solution is already installed and is fully functioning at Rangsit University.
“This ground-breaking IT transformation to cloud empowers our competitiveness in the global education arena,” said Thossaporn Thossansin, director of Information Technology Service Center, Rangsit University. “By leveraging Acer technologies, Rangsit University’s academic performance will continue to excel.”
Acer Smart Cloud Builder
Acer Smart Cloud Builder consists of Acer servers and storage products, hypervisors, and a cloud management platform. The basic hardware set is comprised of three servers and two storage units.
The cloud solution minimizes the TCO for commercial customers by reducing capital costs and optimizing operational costs. Users only pay for the computation time they execute or the on-demand cloud storage they utilize.
Cloud Smart Portal: cloud management platform
Cloud Smart Portal (CSP) supports the top three hypervisors and orchestrates life-cycle management across mixed resources. The CSP’s dynamic workload management can cope with a spate of demands, and the centralized dashboard gives users a comprehensive view of system resource allocation and health condition.
For small and midsized businesses, a compact CSP Lite Edition is available with selected Acer servers; an ideal solution for tech gurus wanting to transform their physical IT to cloud.
“With the Cloud Smart Portal, IT professionals can effortlessly run continuous rightsizing of resources in order to provide the most reliable quality of cloud service to end users,” said Ben Wan, president of Acer e-Enabling Services Business Group.
Deployment of Rangsit University’s education cloud
Within Acer, the Commercial Business Global Operations supplied the hardware, and the e-Enabling Business Group provided the CSP. In collaboration with Acer Thailand, the cloud solution was set up at Rangsit University, a renowned private institution located north of Bangkok.
“Acer Smart Cloud Builder was chosen by Rangsit University because it embodies a higher standard of cloud service,” said Harry Yang, managing director at Acer Thailand. “Our cloud builder is agile, cost-effective, end-to-end, and reliable.”
