Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, today announced its participation at the four-day OpenStack Summit 2013 in Hong Kong.  During the Summit, Huawei will join in-depth discussions on OpenStack technological trends and development of a healthy cloud computing industry with global technical experts, customers, industry analysts and media. Just before the start of the Summit, on November 4, 2013, Huawei was granted Gold Membership by OpenStack Foundation and became the first China-based vendor to receive such honor.  This is a testament of industry recognition of Huawei’s ongoing efforts and contributions to the establishment of global standards of cloud computing.

"As a leading global ICT solutions provider, Huawei has strong relationships across the telecommunications industry, which provides a large opportunity for OpenStack in the market," said Jonathan Bryce, Executive Director of OpenStack Foundation.  "Huawei is a top 20 code contributor and has been working to build the OpenStack community in China. As a Gold Member of the OpenStack Foundation, we look forward to their continued contributions to develop OpenStack globally."

Within three years of its launch, OpenStack has gained widespread support in the industry with its advanced structure, efficient operation and flexible licensing model, and has become one of the most influential open-source projects in cloud computing today.  During the OpenStack Summit, Huawei will share updates of the company’s OpenStack strategy and internal use case through a number of keynote speeches and panel discussions with fellow industry experts.  Huawei will also discuss its perspective on Software Defined Network (SDN) and network evolution strategy in the cloud-computing era, as well as Network Function Virtualization (NFV), challenges facing OpenStack in ICT integration, and recommendations for addressing such challenges. In addition, Huawei will collaborate with Mirantis, the world-renowned OpenStack company, to demonstrate an all-in-one OpenStack solution, which allows customers to deploy one-stop OpenStack-based applications, accelerating the commercialization of OpenStack technologies.

With the initiation of NFV, OpenStack is also gaining traction in the global telecommunications industry.  The penetration of OpenStack from information technology (IT) into communications technology (CT) has become an irresistible trend. Leveraging years of insights and extensive experience in the CT domain, Huawei is striving to promote the deployment of OpenStack in the telecom sector, and help telecom operators achieve a smooth evolution into ICT.  In addition to developing unified OpenStack-based cloud computing solutions for both IT and CT businesses, Huawei, a major global supplier of IT infrastructure systems, is committed to developing OpenStack-compatible IT products and solutions, such as storage solutions, network solutions and servers.

"We are now in the open source era and Huawei is very confident with the development prospect of OpenStack," said Mr. Ren Zhipeng, President of Huawei’s IT Cloud Computing Division.  "Through continuous innovations in OpenStack and open collaborations with industry partners, we are committed to providing ICT integrated cloud computing solutions to customers in both IT and CT industries.  Over the years, Huawei has already established an efficient research and development (R&D) team for the development of OpenStack-based cloud computing solutions. We will continue to share our achievements with the community to help accelerate the maturity of OpenStack technologies, and work with other partners to promote the adoption and development of OpenStack in the industry."

Since 2010, Huawei has been playing an active role in the development of OpenStack and is committed to the construction of an open ecosystem in the cloud computing industry. Currently, over 500 Huawei experts are participating in the R&D of the OpenStack open source project and the development of OpenStack-based cloud computing solutions.  With the growing maturity and expanded adoptions of OpenStack, Huawei is committed to contributing more resources to the R&D of OpenStack-based infrastructure solutions in the long run.
