TOUGHPAD 4K UT-MA6, the high performance 20 inch 4K tablet from Panasonic promises to transform how engineers and designers work

BRACKNELL, UK. 11TH MARCH 2014 The launch of Panasonic’s performance version of TOUGHPAD 4K tablet designed specifically for high end applications promises to transform the way that engineers and designers work.

BUILT FOR ENGINEERS AND DESIGNERS:

The Panasonic Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 Performance model, a more powerful version of the standard model UT-MB5* launched in Sep 2013, has been designed to be an all-in-one computing device for engineers and designers in industries such as Automotive, Construction and Planning.

The Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 has a more powerful Intel® CoreTM i7 vProTM processor with a clock speed of 2.1GHz and NVIDIA® Quadro® graphics, with 16 GB RAM and fully supports Open GL, the industry standard, to handle intensive CAD and 3D modeling applications with ease.

Vincent Merlino, High-Tech Industry Solution Experience Manager of Dassault Systemes, said: “The Performance version of Panasonic’s 20 inch 4K tablet is a huge hardware step forward for engineers and designers, allowing users to make the most of our 3DEXPERIENCE Platform whether in the workplace, on the road or at the customer’s premises.”

Jan Kaempfer, General Manager-Marketing for Panasonic Computer Product Solutions, added: “With its unmatched viewing quality, performance and mobility the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 performance model promises to transform the way that engineers and designers work. With this device they can be more creative, more mobile and more collaborative through the entire work process.”

The performance model comes with built-in Ethernet LAN and Mini DisplayPortTM as standard for fast transfer of large data files and to ensure that the device can be easily connected to displays and projectors as needed.

The 5 megapixel back camera helps engineers/designers to make augmented reality a practical reality, while the 0.9 megapixel front camera enables them to do video conferencing with their clients across the globe.

Offering a new digital viewing experience called 4K which is more than four times better than HD at 3840 x 2560 pixels, the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 enables an engineer/designer to  zoom his drawings to the minutest details. Thanks to its 15:10 aspect ratio, an A3 document could now fit 95% to its screen**, which means all engineering/design documents could be seen to its almost full size.

Although it is a mega sized 20 inch tablet, it weighs 2.54 kg and has a thickness of only 12.5mm, making it an enginner/designer’s handy companion to a meeting room or to the customer site.

Unique Panasonic Electronic Touch Pen*** The portable tablet comes with a unique new Panasonic Electronic Touch Pen*** that is super intuitive and provides paper-like feel for freehand sketching, annotation or handwriting. The pen uses infrared signals to distinctly read every pixel on the screen and communicates it with the tablet via Bluetooth, making it stand apart from commonly found digitizers. It is so accurate because it is able to recognize every individual pixel on the tablet screen, can recognize & record the pen tilt and can interpret 2048 levels of pressure, ensuring enginners/designers handwriting or drawing is reflected perfectly to the smallest detail.

Latest operating system and migration path The Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 comes with pre-installed Windows 8.1 Pro making the device future proof and allowing engineers/designers to take full advantage of the latest improvements in user functionality and the enterprise benefits of the Windows 8.1 operating system. Windows 7 downgrade model is also available. With Microsoft extended support for Windows XP ending in April 2014, the latest Windows 8.1 and 7 versions also offer a smooth migration option for engineers/designers looking to upgrade hardware.

Built for Business The Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 offers all the necessary interfaces to make it a practical device in any business environment, including USB 3.0, SD card slot, headphone jack and smart card reader. The cradle*** also offers USB 3.0 x3, Ethernet LAN and HDMI connectivity. And to ensure enginners/designers can stay connected when on the move, the device offers Bluetooth and WLAN connectivity.

Reflecting Panasonic’s rugged mobile computing leadership status in Europe, the Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 is Business Rugged meaning it can withstand drops of up to 76cm (bottom side, while operating)**** and at the same time it is stylish looking, thanks to its flashy looking Glass Fibre chassis.

To get the best from the UT-MA6,  a full array of purpose built accessories will be available at launch including Electronic Touch Pen, cradle for desktop use, a mounting plate adapter for a VESA arm and carry bag.

The Toughpad 4K UT-MA6 Performance model will be available from April 2014 and will retail from £4,067 + VAT.

* For reference, the key differences between Performance model (UT-MA6) and Standard model (UT-MB5) are its CPU (CoreTM i7 vs CoreTM i5), RAM (16GB vs max. 8GB RAM) and NVIDIA® graphics (Quadro® vs GeForce®). On top of it, Performance model comes with built-in LAN & mini DisplayPortTM. ** With traditional 16:9 aspect ratio, an A3 document will fit only 84% to the screen.
