Sony today announced it performed further 4K  live production trials during “El Clásico” at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in  Madrid on Sunday, March 23. This was in partnership with the technical services  supplier MediaPro, which produced and distributed the content internationally.

Two Sony PMW-F55 35mm 4K cameras, each capable of capturing more than eight million pixels, were  used to film the beauty of the game between the two Spanish giants live. The 4K  images were viewed on two Sony PVM-X300 4K monitors in full resolution,  receiving very positive feedback from the technical team on the ground.

This successful 4K  technology trial opens the door to making the LFP (Liga de Fútbol Profesional)  Spanish football league the first league in the world to bring regular 4K  broadcasts during the 2014-2015 season, enhancing the experience of live sport  for both broadcasters and sports fans. 4K provides four times the resolution of  2K and is already widely deployed in the cinema production industry and among cinemas  equipped with Sony 4K Digital Cinema projectors.

Sony is committed to  drive 4K workflow solutions into the forefront of professional and consumer  applications. Sony has already successfully conducted 4K live production trials  in a joint project with FIFA TV at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 last June,  as well as during the Wimbledon Championships 2013.

This new 4K trial  serves as another rehearsal in the build-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ in  Brazil – for which Sony will be responsible for providing every single minute  of live match footage in full HD, as well as the production of the Final in 4K.
