AMD Fusion Developers Summit – AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced Cloudera certification for an AMD-based Colfax server cluster, bringing more value to big data without an unnecessary price premium. The cluster consists of six Colfax 2U CX2270-N4 servers -- each with two AMD Opteron™ 6200 Series processors -- running the popular Cloudera Distribution including Apache Hadoop2. The 192-core cluster costs up to 40 percent less than similarly configured Intel-based solutions1, enabling required scale-out capabilities at the best price and value for Hadoop on x86 processors.
Cloudera offers enterprise a powerful data platform built on the popular Apache Hadoop open-source software without proprietary vendor lock-in. Hadoop is designed to enable effective distributed parallel processing of huge amounts of data across inexpensive, commodity servers. The AMD Opteron processor-based cluster on Colfax makes it easy for any business to leverage the analytical power of big data.
“Cloudera certification for this cluster enables technology buyers to purchase the right cluster components and software applications to extract the most value from their data,” says Amr Awadallah, Cloudera CTO and co-founder. “AMD and Cloudera are both focused on providing our customers with cost-effective tools to process the vast amounts of data now available. The certification provides customers with assurance that the AMD/Colfax clusters are well-suited for Cloudera solutions.”
The AMD Opteron processor cluster on Colfax servers is designed for customers who are using Hadoop for fast, reliable analysis of both structured and unstructured data. The AMD Opteron platform offers the scale-out capabilities required for effectively handling large amounts of data based on its superior core density, and provides compelling price/performance.
“Colfax servers using AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors offer a perfect platform for early evaluations and deployments of Hadoop,” says Shah Gautam, CEO of Colfax International. “With an ideal balance of performance, scalability and price, the AMD Opteron 6200 Series processors offer our customers an excellent platform for solving challenging computational-intensive tasks. The Colfax and AMD solution offers significant price/performance advantages for our customers.”
Cloudera CTO and co-founder Amr Awadallah will be delivering a keynote at the AMD Fusion Developers Summit (AFDS) today at 9:00 a.m. PDT in a session titled: “Apache Hadoop: The Modern Data Operating System.” This keynote, along with an entire cloud computing track at AFDS, will showcase how technology innovations are changing the business intelligence data stack and will deliver key insight to early work being done at AMD to bring the power of GPU compute to this technology area.
