[Monaco , June 21, 2012]: Huawei, a world-leading information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, was named as the sole winner of the Best Optical Equipment Product – OTN award. This honor was bestowed at the Next Generation Optical Awards program launched by the Institute for International Research (IIR) at the WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking event in Monaco. The award marks the fourth time that the Huawei OTN solution won a top international award. This follows the 2007 InfoVision award from International Engineering Consortium (IEC), the 2009 Top Picks award from Light Reading, and the 2009 R&D 100 Award, which is widely known as the "Oscar of Invention".
As a leading optical event organized by IIR (founded in 1973 and now the world's largest Human Capital company), the WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking event is committed to the promotion of the next generation optical networking technology. The Next Generation Optical Awards program launched at the event recognizes innovation and leadership in the optical networking industry.
The OTN technology implements the cross-connection, grooming, and management of high-speed WDM signals. It is a core technology for the next generation optical network that features intelligence, high efficiency, and large capacity. Huawei remains a leader in the development of OTN technology and standards, by virtue of its long-term R&D efforts in this field.
The award-winning OTN solution is based on Huawei OSN 8800/6800/3800/1800, the most complete WDM/OTN product series in the industry. The solution integrates OTN technology with a variety of other technologies, such as coherent 40G/100G, automatic switching optical network (ASON), photonic integrated device (PID), and ODUflex, which help operators deploy flexible, highly efficient, and easy-to-maintain WDM transport networks.
"The creative integration of OTN technology with various WDM technologies meets the bandwidth management challenges on WDM networks." said Richard Jin, General Manager of Huawei WDM/OTN product line, He continued, "So far Huawei has delivered a total of 16,000 OTN devices worldwide. Our customers' recognition is an engine for Huawei's further progress in the optical networking industry."
The transport network is an indispensable ICT infrastructure. Thanks to persistent dedication to innovation, Huawei has drawn up the overall technical architecture for the next generation transport network, well poised for the upcoming upsurge in digital traffic. In 2012, Huawei has unveiled a series of achievements, including the world's first 10 petabit all-optical switch prototype PPXC, the world's first pan-European 400G field trial, and a WDM prototype claiming the industry's highest spectrum efficiency.
As a pioneer in 100G WDM, Huawei has deployed more than 25 commercial and 50 trial 100G networks. Huawei provides first-class transport network products, such as WDM/OTN/MS-OTN, MSTP/Hybrid MSTP, microwave products, and end-to-end network solutions. According to consultancy firm Ovum, Huawei is currently ranked No. 1 in the global optical network, WDM/OTN, and 100G/40G network markets as of Q1 2012.
