SAN JOSE, CA and MINDEN, NV. – June 27, 2012 - OCZ Technology Group, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCZ), a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced that Dynamite Data, a global leader of online retail channel intelligence, has selected OCZ’s Deneva 2 SATA III SSDs as part of its updated storage infrastructure. With the addition of Deneva 2 SSDs to its web-based comparative shopping service, Dynamite Data can now cache ‘hot’ data on SSD flash residing in a host server providing clients with unmatched critical, competitive and real-time insights on retail big data, with over 30 million extractions every day from merchants worldwide.
The excessive downloading of product comparisons and pricing scenarios by subscribers, in conjunction with loading database indexes at 30 to 50 million web pages per day, combined with general network I/O activity, caused considerable disk strain in Dynamite Data’s initial enterprise storage environment. Using conventional hard disk drives (HDDs) penalized system performance and caused disk I/O bottlenecks and latency delays. In addition, the MySQL comparative product databases did not adequately scale when stored in conventional HDDs and required additional drives to satisfy server workload demands, RAID redundancy (in the event of hard drive failures) and more power, cooling and maintenance costs, all of which drove up total cost of ownership (TCO).
As part of its recent IT refresh, Dynamite Data researched competitive enterprise SSDs for inclusion and selected Deneva 2 SSDs from OCZ. With the industry’s fastest transactional performance for SATA III-based drives, Deneva 2 SSDs deliver up to 80,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) performance (random 4K writes), a maximum bandwidth of 550 MB/s, and support up to 480GB capacities. Supporting best-in-class enterprise endurance and reliability, Deneva 2 SSDs include power loss data protection, minimal write amplification, intelligent block management and wear-leveling, security encryption, and advanced error correction code (ECC) algorithms and techniques.
Dynamite Data conducted a battery of tests on the Deneva 2 SSDs to gauge improvements in database performance and data access. The tests included generating excessive product comparisons and pricing downloads, loading millions of unstructured web buy pages into structured MySQL indexes, all while concurrently running general network I/O activity. In comparison to its original HDD storage configuration, the Deneva 2 SSDs delivered the following performance improvements:
• 430 percent improvement in read performance;
• 400 percent improvement in write performance;
• 420 percent improvement in total read/write performance; and
• 430 percent improvement in the average number of MySQL queries handled per second.
“By configuring system level applications and database indexes on Deneva 2 SSDs, we eliminated the disk I/O bottlenecks our subscribers experienced in favor of solid-state flash storage that delivers significant and noticeable improvements in system application performance and access to comparative product information,” said Kristopher Kubicki, Chief Architect for Dynamite Data. “With this improved performance, scalability and endurance, the Deneva 2 SSDs will enable us to data warehouse even more web-based retail channel products while providing our subscribers with heightened experiences.”
“We are very pleased that Dynamite Data implemented our Deneva 2 SSDs into their refreshed enterprise enabling significantly faster access to database indexes and comparative product information,” said Alex Mei, CMO for OCZ Technology. “With three billion buy pages available globally, Dynamite Data’s objective to data warehouse all e-commerce products for its retail channel is now a reality with our SATA III-based SSDs added to the infrastructure.”
