beyerdynamic dt 1770 pro mkii review b

Studio headphones are usually tuned in a specific way tailored for professionals and yes, the DT 1770 PRO MKII may not sound like most consumer oriented models. Now I haven’t used many studio grade headphones in my life but if I was to quickly describe the DT 1770 PRO MKII I’d say they don’t overemphasize any specific frequency range (this can be fixed however by using EQ). Mids and highs are detailed and clear, vocals are crisp and accurate and bass is deep and more than enough for most music genres without however overshadowing the rest (to me it almost sounds as if bass cuts just short of that). Soundstage may not be the widest I’ve ever encountered with a pair of headphones (open back models produce far better results here), but it offers clear instrument separation with accurate and detailed spatial imaging. Moving to comfort I can’t say anything bad about the DT 1770 PRO MKII, both the earpads and headpad are well padded and sit well on the head. Yes, just like with most closed back models they do tend to get a bit hot after long periods of use but again, that’s something typical with such models. Finally, as for build quality as I mentioned earlier beyerdynamic offers near excellent craftmanship and that’s always a good thing to see.

Currently the DT 1770 PRO MKII studio headphones will set you back USD699.99 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and 595.34Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) so yes, they are not what most would call affordable. Still, these are studio headphones and aside the fact that cost is usually not an issue for such users how they sound is also tailored for them (at least for the most part, my guess is that most people will like them from the get-go) and since they deliver as advertised the Golden award is in order.
