INTRODUCTION
If you were around when the very first bluetooth smartphones made their appearance in the market roughly 20 years ago then you're well aware of just how amazed we all were when the very first portable bluetooth speakers also made their debut in the market soon afterwards. Yes, audio quality, volume and battery life were far from stellar (mediocre really) but just the fact that we no longer needed cables to reproduce music was more than enough to pique our interest. Today portable wireless speakers have come a long way and so you can have very good audio performance, plenty of volume and great battery life without having to spend much. The Studio Wireless Speaker by Tronsmart promises all of the above and then some and today I’m about to find out whether or not it performs as advertised.
Tronsmart is a tech brand that designs and manufactures world-class tech accessories, which has rapidly expanded in America, South America, Europe, Middle East & many Asian countries. The core value of Tronsmart is to make your life easier by providing you with high-tech, high-quality and high-performance products. Tronsmart has covered over 70 countries in the world.
For the Studio Wireless Speaker Tronsmart basically squeezed two tweeters (roughly 58mm in diameter), one woofer and four passive radiators inside a IPX4 certified (splash proof) compact aluminum chassis effectively giving it a 2.1 channel configuration (30WRMS worth with a frequency response of 20Hz-20KHz, always according to Tronsmart). Inside the aluminum chassis we also find the ATS2835 Bluetooth v5.0 chip (A2DP V1.3, AVRCP V1.4 and HFP V1.6 compatible with SBC audio codec support), two 2500mAh rechargeable lithium batteries (up to 15 hours of playback), microSD card reader (supports WAV/FLAC/APE/MP3 formats), 5V/2000A USB charging port and components for Tronsmart's patented TuneConn and Soundpulse technologies (the former allows you to connect up to 100 Studio speakers together whereas the latter is basically a 3D DSP which boosts volume and audio quality). The Studio Wireless Speaker sure sounds interesting so let’s move forward with today's review and check it out.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
The front of the box inside which Tronsmart ships the Studio Wireless Speaker is taken by a product picture and the main product features.
An exposed picture of the speaker is located on the base of the box.
The product features are also listed at the rear of the box right over several barcodes.
Two pieces of foam keep the speaker safe inside the box (the rest of the bundle is placed inside a cardboard box right over the speaker).
Along with the Studio Wireless Speaker inside the box Tronsmart has also placed an 3.5 cable. USB-A to USB-C charging cable, warranty card, sound pulse description paper and the user manual.
THE STUDIO
Measuring 206.5mm in length, 70mm in height and 58mm in width the 961g heavy Studio is quite compact.
To get a better idea about its size i placed the Studio right next to one of my favourite looking wireless speakers to date, the MARS by Gravastar.
Past the metal grill at the front Tronsmart has placed two tweeters (left/right - roughly 58mm in diameter) and a woofer (middle).
At the top we find all of the media navigation buttons (on/off, volume up/down and next/previous track, play/pause track, bluetooth, broadcast mode and the Soundpulse mode) and the battery indicator (4 LEDs).
The rear also features a grill (due to the 4 passive radiators inside the chassis) right next to the microSD card slot, the 3.5mm aux out and the type-C USB charging port.
Roughly half of the base is rubberized for optimal speaker stability.
TRONSMART APP
To get the most out of your Studio speaker you should download the Tronsmart Android/iOS App.
Via the app you can check battery levels, perform firmware updates, change the audio input, use the broadcast mode and choose one of the 7 available EQ modes.
CONCLUSION
Tronsmart may not be the most well-established name in the wireless audio industry but it’s a brand I’ve known for years so i always thought about testing their products. The Studio is the very first to arrive in the lab and i have to admit that it did a lot better than i was hoping it would. Volume levels are great, audio detail is very good across the board (both mids and highs) and as for bass well let’s just say there’s nothing to complain about. The Soundpulse technology really makes a difference as well. Usually whenever i see a company “brag” about such a technology i don’t pay much attention but this actually works. Yes, it may not work miracles but it does improve audio quality and volume levels quite significantly so kudos to Tronsmart for that. Unfortunately, i was unable to use their broadcast mode since they send but a single Studio speaker but if you can even pair 3 (not 100) i think it will come in handy to some people. As for battery life you will be lucky to hit 10 hours using the Soundpulse mode and at around 80% volume (almost 12 without Soundpulse), a number which is by no means bad for such a compact and yet powerful portable speaker.
With a retail price set on 69.99Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) the Studio Wireless Speaker by Tronsmart is actually priced very well (as a matter of fact availability in the USA is my only issue with it). At the end of the day the Studio offers very good audio quality, impressive volume levels, 3 different audio inputs (bluetooth, 3.5mm, microSD card), plenty of battery life (up to 15 hours) and its very own android/iOS app (customization) and that’s why it gets the Golden Award.
