INTRODUCTION
I never was the kind of guy who enjoys spending time in the gym but at least at first that was due to the fact that i had noone to go with me (and just like many others out there it felt boring going alone). So instead i decided invest a bit of money in order to start working out at home, not only by using an electronic bike and a treadmill but also the home-gym by Adidas (i was surprised to see that they still sell that red and black model after all this time). For good or bad i also never liked people i don't know putting their hands on me so with a single exception (had to try once to be certain) i never did like getting a professional massage even though it was clearly something i did need, especially after lifting weights. Fast forward to today and massage guns (or percussion massage guns) promise to assist with muscle recovery and since i was clearly always interested in something like that i decided to look into them for myself starting with one of the most popular models in the market today, the Mebak 3.
Make a difference in your life! Mebak always care about your health by designing many kinds of massagers to make you be better.
Thanks to its popularity the original Mebak 3 percussion massage gun which was released back in early 2019 was updated in late 2020 to keep its edge over the competition and thanks to both its specifications and features it seems to have succeeded (solely based on sales numbers). These include a 60W brushless high-RPM (640-3200RPM / 35-50dBA) motor with 5 different speeds and 7 different head attachments, 12mm working range (back and forth), 2600mAh rechargeable (and replaceable) lithium-polymer batter pack (up to 6 hours of life - depends on massage intensity), auto-off function (shuts down after 10 minutes of use to avoid possible injuries to your muscles), rear LCD display and a very sturdy carrying/storage case. So, let's see if percussion massage guns do help with muscle pain relief.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
The Mebak 3 gets shipped in a white box that just has the company name and model number at the front.
Some of the main selling points of the Mebak 3 are mentioned on the left side.
Moving at the rear of the box we find a drawing of the Mebak 3 massage gun and its available attachments and a proper use warning message.
The entire bundle is actually placed inside a large carrying/storage case that looks like it’s made by carbon fiber (only looks that way however).
Inside the case you will find the Mebak 3 massage gun, charging adapter, small case also looking like it's made by carbon fiber (here you can place the attachments), the 7 attachments, 5 replaceable rings, user manual and a $20 coupon for your next order.
THE MEBAK 3
Head attachments are not something only the Mebak 3 has but still it's good to know that it gets shipped with enough for every part of your body (keep in mind that the size of the attachments depends on the size of the massage gun, the larger it is, the larger these are).
Even though the Mebak 3 weighs less than 1Kg (950g to be exact) it's certainly amongst the largest massage guns you can find.
Here you can see it right next to the compact Merach model (review soon).
The mouth of the Mebak 3 where you fit the attachments is actually made out of metal.
At the rear of the Mebak 3 we find the center touch button which is in charge for the speed selection (5 different ones), several LEDs and a small LCD screen.
Further down we see a rubber coated handle which contains the 2600mAh rechargeable battery back.
You can remove the handle by pressing this button and just pulling it downwards.
The on/off power switch and the DC-in are both located at the base of the handle.
Having a removable battery pack can be very useful for when the battery life gets reduced to almost zero (although that should take at least a couple of years).
Finally as you can see from the above picture the carrying/storage case has plenty of room inside for the entire bundle.
NOISE LEVELS
Initially i wanted to record 2 things when using percussion massage guns, noise levels and battery life but since battery life changes drastically according to massage intensity (not to mention that most guns stop automatically after a few minutes) noise levels is what I decided to go with.
CONCLUSION
Even though originally Mebak wanted me to complete this review inside two weeks’ time I actually used it for well over a month cause honestly, I don’t lift weights with the same frequency I did a decade ago. Still, I do use the treadmill almost on a daily basis and as expected I do carry around very heavy boxes (the lab is on the 1st floor so I have to carry everything from the stairs and usually by myself – yeah, an elevator would be nice but no such luck) so a muscle injury is something that does happen quite often to me. Now I’m not a professional massager but I do know when I feel better and the Mebak 3 did provide relief during numerous muscle pains. It’s actually as if you have someone at home who’s good at massaging people, yes not quite the same as a professional of course but far better than having nothing at all. Unfortunately, there are many areas on the back which you can’t reach all by yourself so a massage gun will not be of use (not unless you have someone to do that for you) but you can always use it for your legs, hands and even shoulders. Needless to say, you will need to try all speeds in order to find which works the best for you (not all are for all parts of the body and certainly not for all people) but that shouldn’t take more than a few days at most. As for battery life you shouldn’t worry about that since with a single charge, I was able to use the Mebak 3 for over 4 hours and since this isn’t something you can use all day long for me 4 hours equals to at least two weeks of use.
At the time of this review the Mebak 3 percussion massage gun retails for USD119.99 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 119.99Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) a price tag which is quite balanced, not only for what you’re getting but also compared to other similar models. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about the Mebak 3, yes, my experience with percussion massage guns is still somewhat limited (I only have 3 more models here to test and compare) but I can say with certainty that it did help with my muscle pains and at the end of the day isn’t that what matters? Sure, the Mebak 3 is a rather bulky massage gun aimed towards strong people but that also means it delivers where it matters (power/speed/battery life) and that’s why it gets the Golden Award.
