INTRODUCTION

   Robot vacuums may have changed the way many of us clean our homes and/or offices but since they obviously can't fully replace manual cleaning (at least with the current technology) the new and compact cordless vacuum cleaners seem to be the perfect companion. Granted their suction power may not be as powerful as what's offered by many if not most wall-powered models today but the lack of of a power cable/cord combined with their size and weight render them ideal for use at any time. The recently released X30 Pro model by one of Xiaomi's premium ecosystem companies called ROIDMI (also available in some countries as the NEX 2 Pro) promises not only unparalleled cleaning performance but also several features we've never seen with cordless vacuum cleaners and after using it for almost 3 full weeks both at home and at the office this review is finally complete.

   ROIDMI, founded in 2015, has become the leader of cordless vacuum cleaner industry in China.    The space grey color X30 Pro (NEX 2 Pro) is the current flagship model by ROIDMI and judging by a history filled with award winning cordless vacuum cleaners that says a lot. Now the new X30 Pro may not be worlds apart in terms of design compared to their previous models but thanks to its aluminum body and smart OLED screen it has already won several international design awards like the very popular and established iF and Red Dot. However, what really makes the X30 Pro stand out is on the inside and here ROIDMI has squeezed an 120k RPM brushless motor (Engine-X 2.0 - 435W rated power) with an impressive maximum suction power of no less than 26500Pa, 8 cone air duct optimizations (Air-X 2.0), six-level anti-bacterial filtration system (HEPA) and 2500mAh worth of LG/Samsung lithium-ion rechargeable battery sells (BMS-X 2.0) which can power the vacuum for a total of up to 70 minutes. The X30 Pro also features wireless charging (magnetic contacts), magnetic mop tank, V-shaped brush with front LED strip/tape, Novaron antimicrobial coating and Bluetooth connectivity which allows the end user to fully monitor and adjust several of its functions via the ROIDMI iOS/Android cleaner app.

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

The company logo along with the main features of the X30 Pro are printed at the front of the box right next to a partial product picture.

On the left side we see all of the product features in 19 languages.

A complete product picture is located at the top of the box.

Moving at the rear we find pictures of both the X30 Pro and X30 models and some of the available OLED messages/screens.

Almost every single component inside the box is packed inside its very own cardboard box.

Along with the main body of the X30 Pro inside the box you will also find an aluminum tube, V-shaped electric brush, mattress electric brush, flex hose, dust brush, corner nozzle, extra filter, hair brush, magnetic water tank, two microfiber mops (one is already mounted on the water tank), small cleaning/cutting tool, power adapter, wall charging mount, warranty information paper and the user manual.

THE X30 PRO

The main body of the X30 Pro is made primarily by plastic and aluminum and weighs no less than 1660g.

In case the wall mount is in another room or place on the lower rear of the handle there's a direct charging port for use with the power adapter.

Further up the handle we see the speed adjustment button.

The on/off power button is located further at the front of the handle right before the OLED display.

Under the OLED display we find the 0.55l dust bin which just like with every other cordless vacuum in the market is made out of clear plastic.

Removing the dust bin (just push the button located at the front and pull it upwards) reveals the grille located just in front of the brushless motor.

To open the front door and empty the contents of the bin just press the orange button.

Of course, you can take everything out of the dust bin if they need to be thoroughly cleaned.

The main electric cleaning add-on features a front LED strip and a V-shaped roller brush which is suitable for all terrain types (and is also water and stain resistant).

Again, the roller brush can be removed for better cleaning.

You can use the electric mattress brush (800RPM) to remove dust dirt and dust mites from your sofas and beds.

The magnetic water tank has a fill port at the top and two drip holes at the base.

As the name suggest the tank magnetically attaches to the primary electric brush as seen above.

The corner nozzle may not be something to get excited over but it is longer than what I’ve seen bundled with most vacuums.

ROIDMI packs a very convenient hair brush grooming attachment and hose combo with the X30 Pro which you can use to remove your pet's hair and dead skin directly (not really effective for cats since they don't stick around once you turn the vacuum on).

The aluminum tube (plastic on both sides) measures roughly 521mm in length.

Attach the tube on the main body of the X30 Pro and in terms of looks the X30 Pro gets an A+.

CLEANER APP

To use the ROIDMI cleaner app you either need to create a new account or connect using your MI (Xiaomi) credentials.

Once the vacuum is connected to your phone you will see a picture of it and the current battery life, full charge time and the remaining filter life (once you wash and clean it you can reset this).

Scrolling down you can also see the total cleaning time (the app also calculated burned calories) and the total cleaned surface and you can also set the standard power gear (from the default 60W), enable/disable the abnormal tone (alert), reset the filter life (once cleaned or replaced), upgrade the firmware of the vacuum (v13.8.7 was used for all tests), check battery information, choose the preferred info on the OLED screen and finally you can also set the auto turn off feature and adjust the brightness levels of the OLED screen.

TEST RESULTS

Just like with robot vacuums all cordless handheld vacuum models will be thoroughly tested (for a duration of at least 20 days) to properly and accurately record/measure total battery life (using just the corner nozzle/flat suction) and noise levels (from around 50cm distance using the ExTech HD600 dBA meter) in all available modes.

CONCLUSION

   I haven't had the chance of using and testing many cordless vacuum cleaners to date (only the P10 by Proscenic, JV65 by Jimmy and the V8 Absolute by Dyson have reached my hands with the last only for a single day trial) but even so the X30 Pro with its partial aluminum body looks and feels like a premium product unlike any of those. On top of that its suction performance is truly staggering and rivals even what i get from regular wall powered vacuum models. Out of the three available suction modes it's clear that the mid one offers the best performance/battery life ratio but for certain uses (pet hair included) even the low mode is in some cases sufficient and as you can see from the charts you can use the X30 Pro for up to just over two hours at that setting. The mopping function is as expected very basic but it does achieve a good level of cleaning similar to what we get from most robot vacuums. I also liked the color OLED screen even though i have to admit that I’d have preferred something more similar to what the Proscenic P10 model has (perhaps an OLED screen at the rear with touch capability instead of having to use buttons?). The same goes for the magnetic wall charging mount since neither its material (plastic) nor its color (white) seem to fit the X30 Pro (on the bright side ROIDMI has used a very effective sticker, so much that a piece of the drywall actually came out with it when i decided to re-locate the vacuum). The only two drawbacks of the ROIDMI X30 Pro which i can think of are it's somewhat small dust bin (0.55l) and the weight of the main body (1660g) and even though it's not that much of a difference compared to let’s say the 1503g of the Proscenic P10 model still you can feel it when using the vacuum. Of course, this is clearly due to the aluminum used, the more powerful brushless motor and the larger battery pack so at least in my book the extra weight is well justified.

   Since the X30 Pro / NEX 2 Pro cordless vacuum cleaner was on a crowdfunding campaign until roughly a month ago and most of the current stock has gone as expected to their backers, availability is very low so currently it’s sold at Banggood for a price of USD529.99/448.24Euros (prices should drop even if just by a little as availability gets better). Now the above price would be considered as high if the X30 Pro / NEX 2 Pro was the most expensive one in the market, which is clearly not since there are models that actually cost even more (and offer less). Still yes, the X30 Pro / NEX 2 Pro cordless vacuum cleaner is far from what most people would consider affordable but it delivers exactly what ROIDMI advertises it for and for that alone it deserves our Platinum Award.
