INTRODUCTION
If you happen to live alone most of the time like i do then chances are you're always looking for ways to make your life as easy and relaxed as possible when at home (and save time in the process). Compared to even just 10 years ago thanks to the introduction of smart and innovative home appliances things have changed dramatically for the best, especially when it comes to cleaning. Once however you have pretty much found the "total" solution for cleaning you start looking at other ways to further improve your life (and again save time) and believe or not the market is filled with smart home appliances many of which most people are not yet aware of. Take for example the T21 model from Proscenic which is not only an Air Fryer (too many of these around) but it's also a WiFi one which you can control via your smartphone and that alone was honestly more than enough for me to have one delivered to the office in early August.
Proscenic" is a combination of “prosperous” and “scenic”, which symbolizes the future of intelligent life. The company was founded in 1993, it is a comprehensive home appliance manufacturer integrating R & D, manufacturing and sales. The company established branches in Japan, United Kingdom, Germany, France, to build a solid foundation for the brand's localized marketing and after-sales service, strives to build Proscenic into a leading brand in the smart home appliance industry in the next 5 -10 years.
Much like almost every other air fryer in the market the Proscenic T21 promises healthier cooking (up to 85% less fat) by making use of a grill like heating element located beneath a fan which in turn blows hot air with high intensity on whatever you want to fry/cook. The hot air is regulated thanks to a small exhaust at the rear of the device and in the case of the T21 you have the ability to manually adjust the interior temperature from 77 (170.6°F) and all the way up to 204 (399.2 °F) degrees Celsius. Still the T21 does have quite a few differences compared to most air fryers currently in the market. Not only is it an 1700W device (most similar models use well over 2KW) but it also features a much larger 5.5 litre (5.5Kg) perforated aluminum basket (most are up to 2Kg in capacity and many even have iron ones - not greaseproof) and a larger diameter fan (at least compared to the two air fryers i have here - this is not something i can see on specs sheets like watt requirements and basket capacities). Needless to say the WiFi feature of the T21 air fryer allows it to connect with your modem/router (2.4G - 5G not supported) and then with your smartphone allowing you to both access all its functions (including temperature, time, schedule, preheat and its 8 cooking presets) and monitor the remaining program time via the Proscenic home app. So, time to take a closer look and see if the T21 is the air fryer to get.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
Proscenic ships the T21 Smart Air Fryer inside a plain cardboard bot that has pictures of it on both the front and rear.
As with most of their products on the left and right we see some detailed information.
The T21 is wrapped inside a plastic bag and placed between two thick foam spacers.
Not much else is included in the bundle so aside the T21 you are also getting a recipe booklet, quick start guide and the instruction manual.
THE T21
The 6Kg heavy T21 Smart Air Fryer is primarily made out of aluminum and plastic and measures roughly 41cm in height, 37.2cm in depth and 36.5cm in width.
At the front of the device we see the basket tray and the touch button area with the LCD screen.
In order to remove the basket tray, you need to push this piece of plastic towards the fryer (children safe).
Once the tray is out you can remove the basked by pressing this button and pulling the handle upwards.
Both the basket and the tray are made out of greaseproof aluminum.
Here you can see the grill heating element and the large fan just above it.
Taking a look at the rear we just see the power cord and the hot air exhaust (remember to leave some space at the rear of the device).
A proper use guide is located at the top of the device (remember it gets hot during operation so don't place anything on it).
The device sits on 4 small rubber feet.
Here you can see what the touch button area with the small LCD screen looks like.
PROSCENIC HOME APP
As always to use the Proscenic Home app you will need to create an account.
After that you will need to select the T21 and follow the pairing instructions.
The app is pretty easy to navigate so the main screen is filled with the 8 available presets (plus a DIY which allows you to set everything manually) and the various functions like preheat, keep warm and timer.
From the settings menu you can change the name of the fryer, check cooking history, perform firmware updates (if available) and allow others to also use it via the app.
One nice feature is that the T21 is always connected to your modem/router so even when turned off you can turn it on.
You can of course also set the desired time for the automatic off function.
By pressing on the menu tab, you will be presented with numerous recipes as seen above.
Aside the audible alerts (when for example the device is almost finished cooking) the Proscenic Home app also includes the current temperature and remaining cooking time.
CONCLUSION
I'm not really much into cooking so yes whatever can help me with that is always on my radar, especially when it comes to smart home appliances. Now along with the regular oven i have at home i also happen to have two air fryers which i almost never use. The reason is not so much that they are not good at what they are supposed to do but that they are not good on the eyes and so every time i want to use one of them i need to take it out from under the counter and afterwards put it back in. This however is not the case with the T21 model from Proscenic since its design makes it feel right at home on the counter, and yes i like that a lot (saves time). Looks/design however is not what matters, cooking performance is and not only does the T21 outperform both air fryers but it also produces results similar to what i get from the full sized oven with a power consumption however of less than 2/3s. Of course, don't forget that for optimal results you need to preheat the T21 but unlike regular ovens (at least the ones I’ve used to date) this is both faster and fully automated at the press of a button (5 minutes at 188 degrees). Now of course there are some downsides to using the T21 like the 8 available presets the T21 comes ready which are not very accurate (different quantities require different times and temperatures - also do take into account that everything needs to be at room temperature before you start cooking) so in some cases you may need to use the T21 as a regular oven by adjusting both the time and temperature manually. Noise levels coming from the fan are also somewhat increased compared to my other two air fryers (roughly 63dBA from 1 meter away) but it’s not like you need to stay next to it for the entire duration so i don’t consider this to be a serious issue.
The T21 Smart Air Fryer by Proscenic currently retails for USD119/128.60Euros directly from Proscenic but thanks to our checkout coupon (NTM6PRO) you can now have it for just USD107.10/115.74Euros. Now since i haven’t really used any other smart air fryers to date (the ones i have are regular ones) i can’t say whether or not the T21 is the best out there currently but what i can say is that it delivers very good results and it does so faster and by using less power than a regular oven and let’s face it, a reduced electrical bill is always a good thing. At the end of the day what matters is that the T21 does exactly what Proscenic markets it for and that’s why it gets our Golden Award.
