INTRODUCTION
When the "big bang" occurred in the computer market back in the late 80's and early 90's PC cases were just pieces of metal that had but a single purpose, to house basic hardware components. This slowly started changing in the late 90's and today, well, today PC cases are not only used to house and even showcase a wide range of hardware components but in many cases can also improve room aesthetics (design/RGB lighting). Panoramic or fish tank PC cases have been especially popular among consumers lately (gamers, enthusiasts and modders mostly) and today with me I have one such model, the KING 95 PRO by MONTECH.
Telon Co., Ltd. has been engaged in Taiwan's PC industry for more than 30 years. And its team includes experienced engineers & designers and after-sales personnel. MONTECH was established by Telon in 2016, which focuses in the PC gaming market. MONTECH is quite successful in the Taiwanese market. It is now seeking to expand to the world. There are four pillars of our core values, we abbreviate them to four simple letters, SSEC. <Simplicity>, <Safety>, <Easy To Use> and <Customer-Trust>. SSEC is how we do everything, like designing products, manufacturing, communicating with customers, it is our deepest values here in Montech.
The KING 95 PRO is currently available in 3 colors (gentleman black, pure white, vibrant red, or prussian blue) and features a dual tempered glass design (right side panel / fascia) thus allowing the end user to see pretty much everything inside the case. Unlike the regular KING 95 the KING 95 PRO comes with a grand total of 6 pre-installed fans (two RX140 PWM ARGB side fans, three RX120 PWM ARGB bottom fans, single AX120 PWM ARGB rear fan) and a 10-seat ARGB PWM Fan Hub (6 dynamic light modes with 29 possible combinations) so you won't have to worry about airflow levels. As for other features the KING 95 PRO comes with two fascia’s (tempered glass / mesh), removable panels complete with dust filters (top, side, and bottom), patented rotatable side fan bracket and a vertical, removable drive cage. As for interior space the KING 95 PRO has enough room for an ATX motherboard (some E-ATX models too), 9 fans (9x120mm and/or 6x140mm & 1x120mm) and/or 2 radiators (240mm side up to 60mm thick - 240/280/360mm top), 5x3.5" and/or 8x2.5" drives, 175mm tall CPU coolers, 190mm long power supplies (two if you remove the drive cage) and 420mm long graphics cards.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
The front of the box is partially taken by a product picture and of course the company logo.
On the right side we find the features list in 10 languages whereas on the left the specifications table.
At the rear of the box, we find a full product picture and again the company logo.
The KING 95 PRO is wrapped inside a plastic bag and placed between 3 foam spacers.
Along with the KING 95 PRO inside the box you'll also find the front mesh fascia, fan bracket, user manual and a plastic box with mounting screws, cable ties, USB covers and cable straps.
THE KING 95 PRO EXTERIOR
Measuring 442mm in height, 475mm in length and 300mm in width the KING 95 PRO is a medium sized PC case.
As mentioned earlier both the right side panel and the fascia are made of tempered glass.
The I/O is located right next to the fascia (notice the vertical RGB LED strip) and includes the on/off power button, reset button, two USB 3.0 ports and the typical headphones and microphone 3.5mm ports.
You can easily swap the tempered glass fascia for the mesh one found in the bundle as seen above.
The top panel is perforated and removable.
Under the top panel you can install either up to three 120mm fans or a single 360mm radiator.
Looking at the rear of the KING 95 PRO we see an AX120 PWM ARGB fan, drive cage with two 2.5/3.5" drive trays (can be used to fit a 2nd PSU), PSU area and the 7 PCI expansion slots.
The left side panel is also perforated and features a built-in dust filter (just like the top).
At the base we find a removable dust-filter.
THE KING 95 PRO INTERIOR
As with most panoramic/fish tank models, interior space is somewhat limited.
Next to the motherboard tray we find two RX140 PWM ARGB exhaust fans placed on a rotatable bracket which can get behind the fascia if you decide to use the mesh one.
3 more RX120 PWM ARGB exhaust fans are located at the base of the KING 95 PRO (you can also use these mounting areas for three 2.5" SSDs).
Aside the CPU cutout there are 6 rubber grommets on the motherboard tray for cable routing.
Taking a look at the rear we find a large panel with two 2.5" and/or a single 3.5" drive mounts, the drive cage with a 2.5" mount at its base and the PSU area.
BUILDING THE SYSTEM
As always, the purpose of this section is not to build a functional system but rather to showcase what you can expect from the case at hand in terms of interior space.
With room for up to 190mm long power supply units and plenty of space for cable routing you should be able to use most models in the market.
I use one of the first E-ATX motherboards to ever reach the lab and as you can see it fits well inside the KING 95 PRO (there are others slightly larger however).
You can mount up to 360mm long radiators on top of the KING 95 PRO (since my 360mm radiator is thicker than supported i used an 240mm one).
With support up to 175mm tall CPU coolers again you should be able to fit most models in the market today.
Unless you decide to rotate the side, bracket or use the bundled one you have room for up to 420mm long graphics cards meaning the KING 95 PRO is compatible with all cards in the market today (even if you do rotate the side bracket you should still have enough space even for a GeForce RTX 4090).
NOISE LEVEL TEST
After giving it much thought we decided on performing noise tests with each PC Case we receive by placing our ExTech HD600 vertically on top of each case to measure the noise levels emanating from the pre-installed fans at both 50% and 100% with the help of a fan controller (if the case doesn't have one, we use our own).
CONCLUSION
Panoramic/fish tank PC cases may not offer the same amount of interior space as others, but they look great and that’s clearly their strongest selling point (being available in 4 different colors also helps a lot). With the KING 95 PRO MONTECH takes things a bit further and so not only do they offer more interior space compared to their immediate competition but thanks to the 6 pre-mounted fans they also offer very good airflow levels right from the factory (especially if you use the bundled mesh fascia). Now, it would have been great if MONTECH had allowed for thicker 360mm radiators on top but since this is a somewhat compact PC case, I do understand them not doing so.
So, just how much does the KING 95 PRO cost? Well, currently the KING 95 PRO by MONTECH retails for USD159.90 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 166.62Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) so it’s quite affordable. All said and done I really liked the KING 95 PRO middle tower by MONTECH. Yes, interior space is not great but it’s more than what is offered by its immediate competition and that along with its great looks and very good airflow levels are more than enough for the Golden Award.
