INTRODUCTION
When out to get a brand new gaming mouse it's very important to know exactly what use you want it for in order to pick just the right one for the job. For example gamers who play fast passed games (primarily FPS - first person shooter - titles) usually prefer small to medium sized claw/tip grip models with no more than 6-7 buttons tops. On the other hand gamers who like playing MMO's often go for larger palm grip models that feature many more buttons and by many i mean up to 19. Over the years Tt eSPORTS may have released a large number of award winning gaming mice (for example their Ventus and Level 10 lines) but they haven't really catered to the needs of MMO gamers all over the world something which they aim to change with their brand new NEMESIS RGB Switch Optical Gaming Mouse.
A division of Thermaltake Gaming, Tt eSPORTS is committed to bringing the most personalized and the highest quality gear for the most competitive cyber battles, and advances the idea of products designed by gamers for gamers. Tt eSPORTS has continually been a major driving force in inspiring, challenging, and taking to new heights eSports in the professional gaming industry; and currently sponsors a multitude of gaming teams and streamers from around the world by equipping them with the necessary gaming gears - keyboards, headsets, mice and accessories - to compete and succeed at the highest level at major eSport events such as: DreamHack, Insomnia, epic. LAN and the Intel Extreme Masters. Tt eSPORTS continually strives to promote eSports as a global phenomenon and to put it onto the world stage.
Just like the Revenger S Gaming Mouse by COUGAR we reviewed a couple of days ago the NEMESIS by Tt eSPORTS is based on the Pixart PMW3360 Optical Sensor which features zero-hardware acceleration, resolution of up to 12000DPI (dots per inch), tracking speed of up to 250IPS (inches per second) and acceleration of up to 50G. Tt eSPORTS has also equipped the NEMESIS with a patented key-switch system (features a total of 12 programmable buttons), OMRON switches for its primary buttons (50 million clicks), 3-zone RGB lighting system (8 available effects), ARM 32-bit micro controller (5 onboard profiles), 2000Hz polling rate, ergonomic rest plate and a 1.8 meter long braided cable with a gold plated USB plug.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
The three main product features are listed at the front of the box right beneath a large product picture.
You can check the total amount of available buttons and the specifications of the optical sensor from the top of the box.
A short product description is printed at the rear of the box in 16 languages right beneath the main product features and two product pictures.
Along with the NEMESIS RGB Switch Optical Gaming Mouse Tt eSPORTS has bundled two case stickers, warranty policy paper, quick installation guide and a step by step guide on how to use the patented key-switch system.
THE NEMESIS
The brand new NEMESIS RGB Switch Optical Gaming Mouse measures 111mm in length, 88.5mm in width and 38.89mm in height.
Just like the Revenger S the NEMESIS is a medium sized gaming mouse (not as long but wider).
At first glance we see a total of 8 programmable buttons on the left side right next to the ergonomic rest plate (this is also one of the RGB lighting zones).
The company logo placed at the rear of the mouse is also one of the RGB lighting zones.
Almost the entire right side is rubberized for improved grip.
The profile cycle button (4 available profiles) is placed at the top of the NEMESIS.
Moving at the front of the mouse we find the clickable scroll wheel which is also the 3rd and last RGB lighting zone.
3 really large Teflon feet are placed around the PMW3360 optical sensor at the base of the NEMESIS.
This release mechanism enables using the patented key-switch system.
Once the release mechanism is pulled out you just need to rotate the buttons placed on the left side as seen above (you can detach and attach the buttons according to what layout better suits your needs).
The 1.8 meter long braided cable has a gold plated USB plug at the end.
COMMAND CENTER PRO
Prior to actually using the NEMESIS you should head over to the official Tt eSPORTS product page and download the latest control software version.
As expected the first thing the software does is check the current firmware version installed in the NEMESIS and if there's a new it will notify you.
From the customize tab you can program all 16 available buttons.
You can choose colors and effects for all 3 RGB lighting zones from within the lighting tab (you can also adjust the speed, direction and brightness levels of the effects).
The performance tab allows you to customize the DPI levels of all 4 profiles, set the polling rate, adjust button response and enable/disable angle snapping.
Tt eSPORTS has also placed a useful calibration tool in their Command Center Pro software from where you can either pick one of the available presets (if you own one of the supported mats) or perform a manual calibration (lift-off distance can be adjusted from this tab as well).
Here you can see the 3-zone RGB lighting system in all its glory.
CONCLUSION
When Tt eSPORTS came to us many months ago with news and pictures of their upcoming NEMESIS gaming mouse we were intrigued and so when it arrived we started using it with our usual selection of games (World of Tanks, World of Warships, Star Citizen, Dreadnought, Elite Dangerous and Warframe) alongside many other models. Unfortunately although the PMW3360 optical sensor once again performed admirably both in terms of speed and precision and the 3-zone RGB lighting system looked great we were simply left asking for more. For example it took me quite a while to get used to the enclosure/grip of the NEMESIS but leaving that on the side (since others seem to like it) we all agree that the quality of the left switches could be better. True the key-switch system may come in handy to serious MMO gamers and the buttons are hard enough so you don’t have to worry about accidentally pressing them but we all feel that there’s room for improvement.
Just by looking at the current price tag of the NEMESIS Switch Optical RGB Gaming Mouse which is currently set at USD49.89 inside the USA (Amazon) and at 58.54Euros inside the EU (Amazon DE) it’s quite obvious that Tt eSPORTS wanted to launch a cost-effective gaming mouse for MMO gamers. Well they did succeed in doing so but as pointed out already the end result is not exactly what we were expecting and although it’s certainly worth of our Golden Award due to its price/performance/features combination it’s still far from the best in its class.
