k m 26782 stand review a

When you're out to get a brand new TV and you want to place it right in the middle of the room you've got three available choices, hang it from the ceiling (which may not be easy especially if you have a fake ceiling), place it on a table or mount it on a sturdy stand. This is exactly the case with our office/lab so ever since i purchased a brand new 55 inch 4k TV last year i was looking for ways to place it exactly where i wanted. However, it proved a lot more challenging than i originally thought to find a sturdy, compact and somewhat good looking stand to mount it on so up until a couple of months ago i had to use a table for that purpose. The solution to that problem came recently from the people over at König & Meyer with their 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand which is also what today's review is all about.

The name König & Meyer has stood for sophisticated and original music accessories for 70 years. The company’s loyalty to its home base of Germany, the high quality and reliability of its products and an environmentally-aware production system are strengths which have firmly established the company in the international market.

The 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand by König & Meyer (available only in black color) is based on a sturdy 3 piece design (cast iron base, steel rod and universal TV mount) and at the time of its release it was designed for flat screens up to 46 inches in size. This was a concern of mine of course since i wanted to test this stand with our 55 inch flat screen and well 46 to 55 is not a small bump in size. TV screens however get lighter and lighter all the time (for example my 42 inch plasma screen - 2011 model - was 32kg) so after König & Meyer shared with us the maximum weight limit of the 26782 stand (unofficially that is since that number is not listed anywhere on their page) we became certain that this stand was more than a match for our 17.7kg heavy 55 inch SONY 4K TV. Of course, this stand also offers height adjustment ranging from 1.1 meters up to 1.65 meters, internal cable routing and is compatible with virtually every VESA standard available (not just the ones listed online).

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

k m 26782 stand review 1tThe 26782 Screen/Monitor stand arrived in two separate plain cardboard packages.

Contained inside the long box is the steel rod, universal TV mount, all necessary Allen screws and the mounting/assembly instructions.

On the other hand, the smaller box contains just the 420x420mm cast iron base.

THE 26782

The main rod is a two piece folding design (60/76mm in diameter) and when retracted measures just 1.1 meters (1102cm to be exact).

Responsible for keep the rod extended is a spring loaded knob but for people who are extra cautious König & Meyer has placed a safety screw in the bundle which you can use instead of the knob.

A small sticker located at the lower end of the rod has the company name and address and the product number on it.

At the top of the rod we find the main VESA mount and a large cable routing hole.

The steel rod has a total of 12 height settings which when fully extended can raise your screen to 1.65 meters (1653cm to be precise).

I was somewhat surprised to see that the steel rod doesn't get into the cast iron base but attached on to it.

There are four soft round pads under the cast iron base which ensure it will not scratch the surface you decide to place it on.

ASSEMBLY - FINISHED LOOKS

First step in assembling the stand is to attach the cast iron base onto the rod via two Allen screws.

The main screen mount located at the top of the rod is compatible only with VESA 100x100 and 200x100 compatible screens so for our test we needed to use the bundled universal brackets.

Now even though in the specifications page König & Meyer mentions that the extra brackets can only be used with VESA 100x200/200x100/200x200/250x600/150x400 compatible screens we had no problem mounting ours (300x200 VESA).

The stand sits 1190cm tall when retracted and 1740cm tall when fully extended.

CONCLUSION

k m 26782 stand review b

What makes the 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand by König & Meyer stand out from similar products is it's rather simple and compact design (must have gone through over 200 floor stands and compact is not something you see a lot) which is exactly what i was looking to use in our office/lab with our 55 inch screen (primarily in order to save space). Quality is of course nothing short of excellent and in terms of height adjustment well let’s just say that 1.65 meters for a large screen like this one is probably not something many people will get to actually set the stand at (still it’s good to have that option). Universal VESA compatibility pretty much ensures that the 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand can be used with any flat screen regardless of size (still just to be on the safe side I wouldn’t use any model over 20Kg with it). Now a tilt function would be most welcome since that would mean people can use the height adjustment far more effectively (ourselves included) but I guess we just can’t have it all, especially with a stand of its size.

Even though the market is filled with low cost floor stands the ones that clearly stand out in terms of build quality don’t come cheap and the same applies for the 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand by König & Meyer since it currently retails for no less than 322.05Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de). This is obviously the sole serious downside of this particular stand but if you’re looking for a high quality compact stand with good height adjustment and VESA mounts compatible with pretty much every flat screen out there (again however not over 20-22kg in weight) then the 26782 Screen/Monitor Stand by König & Meyer certainly deserves your attention and consideration.
