INTRODUCTION
When out to get a brand new flat TV most people also need to take into account space restrictions which is also the primary reason as to why wall mounts have become so popular over the years. Still there are instances where you simply can't use a wall mount and so you're limited to either using the bundled table stand/legs of your TV or turn towards more "targeted" solutions. These solutions include either ceiling mounts (difficult installation, can't be moved around - highly popular for projector use) or floor stands (more versatile - take up quite a bit of space) both of which is not something we see used a lot. Last year i received the 26782 screen/monitor stand by König & Meyer and even though i was a bit sceptical at first not only did it fit right at home in our lab during testing but it was also a very popular article (review here) and on top of that in the months to come many of you even asked for us to check the 26783 model out. Well it did take a while for me to do that but the 26783 model is finally here.
The name König & Meyer has stood for sophisticated and original music accessories for 70 years. The company’s loyalty to its home base of Germany, the high quality and reliability of its products and an environmentally-aware production system are strengths which have firmly established the company in the international market.
Compared to the previously reviewed 26782 screen/monitor stand the 26783 version may not be that different (same tube design) but it does sport some differences, mainly due to the fact that it can support much larger screens (officially the 26782 can be used with up to 46" models whereas the 26783 model can be used with up to 65" models). So even though both models feature 2-piece folding designs the 17.12Kg heavy 26782 model had a single leg (cast iron - 420x420mm) whereas the 17.9Kg heavy 26783 has two (steel profile tubes - 900x500mm). Both stands also feature VESA-D/E/F compatibility, spring loaded clamping knobs (height adjustment) and a height range between 1100mm and 1650mm. So, let’s see if the 26783 by König & Meyer monitor/screen stand is the one to get if you’re looking for a quality floor stand to mount your brand new flat TV on.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
Unlike the 26782 stand which arrived inside two different packages the 26783 arrived inside a single (yet larger) box.
Luckily even though the box was badly damaged there was a main box inside without even a scratch on it.
A sticker located on the left side is the only thing that points out to what's inside the box.
Once again packaging is excellent so kudos to König & Meyer for that.
Inside the box you will find the main steel tube/rod, universal TV mount, center bar, two legs, flat piece of metal, two adjustable feet, safety screw and all necessary Allen screws and the mounting/assembly instructions.
THE 26783
Once again König & Meyer has used a two piece folding design (tubes 60/76mm in diameter) which when retracted measures just 1100mm.
The bottom of the tubes seems identical to that of the 26782 model (which probably means that just the lower end changes).
Moving at the top we find the main VESA mount and a large cable routing hole.
A spring loaded knob with the company logo on it can be used to adjust the height of the stand (you can replace that with the bundled safety screw - ideal for heavy screens).
Just a small sticker located at the lower end of the tube has any kind of details about the model and the manufacturer.
The center bar is where both the main body of the stand and the two legs attach so it's quite large and sturdy.
On the other hand, the two legs are quite smaller but that's actually not a bad thing since the stand is already quite large (900x500mm).
ASSEMBLY - FINISHED LOOKS
Before everything else you will need to mount the adjustable feet onto the two legs (as the name suggest these are height adjustable).
Once this is done you will need to attach each leg onto the center bar via 4 Allen screws on each side (as seen above).
After that attach the flat piece of metal on the base of the bar and then use the two corresponding Allen screws to attach it onto the main tube.
Even though the main tube with the VESA mount is identical to that of the 26782 model the center bar with the two legs clearly require more space.
Since i attached a 55" screen onto the 26782 by using the universal mount this time over i thought it would be nice to showcase the main mount by using a 40" model instead.
This screen came with its own screws in its VESA holes so they needed to be replaced with the provided Allen ones.
Even for a 40" screen you still need to use the basic VESA adapters as seen above.
Attaching the screen onto the 26783 after that is a piece of cake.
Here you can see just how the 26783 stand looks like with the 40" screen attached onto it (I’m getting a 65" screen soon so i may also update this review).
CONCLUSION
If you’ve read my review of the 26782 model then you should know that even though König & Meyer states that it can accommodate up to 46” sized screens it actually is capable of holding up to 55” models (anything really as long as it doesn’t weigh over 20Kg) so it comes as no surprise that the 26783 can hold screens up to well over 30Kg in weight (meaning up to modern 75” models right now) on flat surfaces. This of course is due to the excellent build quality of the stand which is certainly not something we see a lot in this segment of the market (most floor stands I’ve checked to date weigh almost half as much). However, between the 26782 and the 26783 i have to side with the former since its base takes less space and looks far more elegant. That being said the two legs of the 26783 can be outfitted with wheels/rollers (by replacing the height adjustable feet) and for some people that’s actually quite important so both stands have something different to offer. Unfortunately, just like with the 26782 the 26783 doesn’t feature a tilt mount and even though i had no problem watching movies as is it would be nice to have that function in case you ever need it.
Price was the largest drawback of the 26782 screen/monitor stand and the same applies for the 26783 model since it currently retails for roughly USD600 inside the USA and for 347Euros inside the EU (Amazon.co.uk). I will not even comment on the price the 26783 is sold on the other side of the Atlantic (shipping fees probably propel it that high) but in the EU it’s actually almost twice as expensive compared to other similar floor stands (by similar i mean with the same weight capacity) and that is not something most consumers on a budget will look past. Overall however the 26783 offers most of what i personally would look for in a floor stand including build quality, design and screen compatibility which is also why i strongly recommend checking it out if you're in the market for one (and you also happen to be living in the EU that is).
