uperfect model o 4k oled portable monitor review a

Even though I’ve owned a good number of laptops/notebooks over the years i never did enjoy using them, primarily due to their small screens (always compared to what my desktop computers had at home and later on at the office). The arrival of the first portable LCD monitors several years back made me hope for the best and today, well the fact that you can connect most current generation smartphones to one and enjoy most of the things you would with a laptop is obviously the way to go (at least for me). Of course, you can always connect one or more portable LCD monitors to a laptop or even a desktop computer to further expand your desktop/program windows. UPERFECT has released quite a few portable monitors these past years but the latest Model O 15.6" 4K OLED Touchscreen model could be their best one yet.

UPERFECT was founded in 2017 as a brand based on decades of experience and research along with a sole vision to enlighten people in enhancing their display to 4K and improve their lives through our portable display technology. At UPERFECT MONITOR we understand and are fully committed to solving real-time challenges experienced by people worldwide by the provision of high-quality, individualized modern technological monitors with professionalism, dignity, and respect. We strive to understand the challenges that people are facing today and use our strong technology acumen to find exclusive and unprecedented solutions for them.

The model O by UPERFECT is a 15.6 inch portable monitor which as its main selling point has its 4K (3840x2160p) OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) 10-bit HDR compatible panel (passive matrix PMOLED one) which should deliver higher brightness and contrast, superior viewing angles and faster response times compared to similar IPS/VA models. Taking a look at the numbers UPERFECT reports a refresh rate of 60Hz, 16:9 screen ratio, 100000:1 contrast ratio, 1ms response time (gtg), 400 cd/m2 brightness and 178 degrees viewing angles for their Model O. Other features include a 10-point touchscreen (needs to be connected to a compatible device), auto rotation (vertical/horizontal), dual stereo speakers (1W each, 8Ohm impedance), aluminum housing, eye care mode (low blue light, up to 70% reduction) and an 10000mAh rechargeable battery pack (can keep the Model O running for up to 4 hours). As for available connections the Model O sports two USB type C ports, 3.5mm audio output and a single mini-HDMI port. The Model O certainly looks extremely promising so let's move forward with today's review.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

uperfect model o 4k oled portable monitor review 1tUPERFECT ships the Model O inside a plain cardboard box that has a product drawing at the front and just the country of origin along with several certifications at the rear.

Once you open the box, you'll see the two main cardboard boxes.

In the top box UPERFECT has placed the bundled cover whereas on the bottom box they've placed the Model O along with its two USB-C cables, USB-C to USB-A cable, Mini-HDMI cable, user manual and the power adapter.

THE MODEL O

Measuring 358mm in length and 233mm in width the Model O is slightly larger compared to some 15.6" portable monitors.

However, it makes up for that since with a thickness of just 6.8mm it's a lot thinner compared to most portable monitors.

With a diagonal of 15.6" (391mm) the Model O may leave some consumers asking for more.

On the left side of the aluminum housing we find one of the two 1W speakers and as for the right side here we find the two USB-C ports, mini-HDMI port, 1W speaker and the volume up/down buttons.

Just like with most 15-15.6" portable monitors in the market the Model O doesn't have VESA compatible holes at the rear.

The bundled cover is probably the best I've seen bundled with a portable monitor so no issues here.

It's thick enough so even if you drop the monitor with the front of the cover open it will probably be ok.

Worth pointing out is that the cover has holes where needed (here you can also see the on/off button and the 3.5mm port at the top).

Needless to say, the cover can be used as a stand to keep the Model O at an angle when using it.

MODEL O MENUS

Regardless of what device you connect the Model O with the OSD uses the touchscreen feature.

It's a very simple OSD with all the settings available from a main tab and both the battery charge and resolution displayed on the right top and bottom.

VIEWING ANGLES / PICTURE QUALITY

uperfect model o iq 1t

As expected from an OLED screen the Model O by UPERFECT produces vibrant colors with very detailed and crisp images. The end result may not be worlds apart compared to some desktop screens I have in the lab (IPS and VA ones) but it’s without doubt a lot better than all the portable monitors to pass from my hands (to date at least). Audio quality is not something I talk about when testing screens but in this case, I felt I needed to since the dual 1W stereo speakers did a very good job during my testing period.

No problems in regards to viewing angles although I seriously doubt someone would purchase a portable monitor to look at it from the sides.

TEST RESULTS

DATACOLOR SPYDERX ELITE MEASUREMENTS

gamut

By using the SpyderX Elite Colorimeter by Datacolor i measure both the color gamut (SRGB and Adobe) and the brightness levels of the monitor at hand.

Here you can see results for Color and Luminance Screen Uniformity (instead of just listing results at 100% brightness I’m listing all of them - 50/67/83/100%).

Datacolor rates monitors based on their overall results so it was decided to include this chart as well.

POWER CONSUMPTION

Power consumption may not be what most people look for when out to get a brand new monitor but at the end of the day it's still an important factor so i do hope this is of interest to some of you.

CONCLUSION

uperfect model o 4k oled portable monitor review b

The Model O by UPERFECT is the 3rd screen I’ve used that has an OLED panel (the other two are LG TVs) so as expected i had high expectations from it. The 4K OLED panel is its strongest selling point after all and even though PMOLED technology is not quite as good as AMOLED (reduced lifetime and higher energy requirements) it still produces more vibrant colors, smoother video and crisper image quality compared to LCD (IPS/VA) models. The thin aluminum housing of the Model O was a nice surprise as well as was its weight of just 940g (which however climbs to roughly 1100g with the cover attached) making the Model O one of the lightest portable monitors you can get your hands on today. The 10-point touchscreen works well but do keep in mind that you need to connect the Model O with compatible devices via the USB-C cables (according to UPERFECT Mac OS only supports 1-point). As mentioned earlier the speakers worked well and as for battery life even though UPERFECT reports up to 4 hours I didn’t even see 3 during my tests (so basically this depends a lot on the settings you choose). Of course, even 2-3 hours are more than enough for most cases so that shouldn’t be a problem for the majority of the consumer base.

OLED screens obviously cost considerably more compared to IPS/VA ones and so the current price of USD789/711Euros (UPERFECT – sale price) required for you to get your hands on the Model O is quite justified. The only question that remains is if it’s worth spending 2-3 times as much for it (compared to a regular LCD model) and that’s something I really can’t answer. My take is that if one can afford an OLED portable monitor and can in some way make use of the benefits of that technology (colors, image quality) then the result is obvious (as is if someone can’t afford one). Price aside however there’s no doubt that the Model O is among the best portable models money can buy today and for that it gets the Platinum Award.
