CONCLUSION

When it comes to studio monitor speakers what people look for is a flat, neutral, uncolored audio signature and that's exactly what you're getting from the latest Edifier MR5. This however doesn’t mean you’re missing anything out in terms of audio clarity since the MR5 do a very good job across the audio spectrum thus delivering lively and crisp highs and mids with a good amount of bass (something I didn’t expect to be honest after checking what some of my colleagues had to say about them). As a matter of fact, the MR5 did extremely well delivering clear, natural and balanced audio with every music genre I threw at it from pop, classic and jazz to rock, techno, and even heavy metal. Volume levels are also very good, yes, the MR5 are far from the most powerful speakers I’ve ever used but they can easily fill a large room (with almost no audio distortion even at maximum volume) and that is more than plenty. As always nothing is perfect however and so I did notice 2 downsides about the MR5. First is that all audio inputs are enabled simultaneously and even though that shouldn’t pose an issue for most users it may for some. Second is the delay between the ConneX app and the speakers themselves so if you’re accessing the EQ section it may take 1-2 seconds between the time you adjust something and that change making its way to the speakers. Both downsides are not real game breakers but as always, I need to point them out (LDAC is once again disabled by default, but this has been covered many times in the past).
Right now, the MR5 Studio Speakers by Edifier retail for USD297.49Euros inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 259.46Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) so they are priced well. Again, the MR5 may not be the perfect speaker set out there but it’s hard finding one with its audio performance and features (Hi-Res wireless audio / LDAC audio codec / EQ) at this price and that’s exactly why they are worth the Golden Award.
