spyra spyragravity review a

Growing up listening to women say that no matter how old men are always boys deep inside did make me feel a little bit strange, possibly because I knew it to be true. Take gaming for example, I started going to the arcades at the age of 8 (accompanied by my father of course) and almost 4 decades later I still like playing games, this time however using expensive PCs. Same with water sports, who didn't like using water pistols during the summer under the scorching sun? Yes, back then we used to do that with cheap water pistols (most of us anyways) but today well, today we have much more advanced models in our disposal, including the latest SpyraGravity by Spyra.

Spyra reinvents the water gun afteryears of stagnation. As a new wave high-tech version for tech fans and thrilled adults. With individual water blasts for more power, range and precision. But water blasters are just the beginning. Spyra is going to up-level the whole outdoor adventure.

The SpyraGravity is unlike anything Spyra has released to date for the simple reason that instead of shooting water it launches small reusable rubber balls each filled with 100ml of water (water bombs). It's available in red and blue colors, has an effective range of up to 16 meters (arc), launches balls with a speed of 13 meters per second, allows for up to 2000 launches per charge and features an 1200mAh lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack. Spyra has also equipped the SpyraGravity with an real-time LED display, waterproof USB-C charging port, 8 internal sensors for optimal handling of the SpyraBlast water bombs and a magazine capable of storing up to 4 of them.

SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

Typically, Spyra send both available colors for me to showcase and as you can see depending on the color of the SpyraGravity the box is also painted the same way.

At the front Spyra has placed a large product picture and the main product features.

Turning the box around we find several product pictures used to showcase the main features.

A quick start guide is printed at the base of the box.

Packaging is rather basic, but it gets the job done so no issues here.

Along with each SpyraGravity inside the box you'll find 4 SpyraBlast water bombs placed in a mesh pouch, screwdriver (for the USB-C port cover), USB-C cable (too short) and the user manual.

THE SPYRAGRAVITY

The SpyraGravity weighs 2.3Kg (empty) and measures roughly 720mm in length, 225mm in height and 100mm in width.

This is the largest product by Spyra to date, not however the heaviest (the SpyraThree weighs 2.5Kg, empty).

The small front handle is used both to load (back position) and place the SpyraBlast waterbombs into launch position (front position).

On the other hand, the trigger is not only used to launch the SpyraBlast balls, but also the on/off button (after 5 minutes of inactivity the SpyraGravity will turn automatically off).

Spyra has placed the USB-C charging port on top and just like with previous models it features a plastic cover (will need the bundled screw to remove it).

The LED display informs the end user about the number of SpyraBlast balls in the chambers, handle status (pulled/pushed forward) and remaining battery.

You can load the SpyraBlast waterbombs from the rear of the SpyraGravity as seen above (keep in mind that you can't slide the compartment cover unless the SpyraGravity is turned on).

As expected, the front is wide enough to make it easy for the SpyraBlast water bombs to exit.

In the event one of the SpyraBlast water bombs gets stuck in the magazine you can remove it by opening the maintenance cap at the bottom of the SpyraGravity as seen above (you'll need a coin to do so).

The SpyraBlast water bombs are closed magnetically so they can open (explode) the moment they hit their target (to fill them with water submerge them and close them while in the water).

CONCLUSION

spyra spyragravity review b

When Spyra unveiled their SpyraGravity plans to me early last year the concept fascinated me, it was the first of its kind after all. Fast forward to today however and I must admit that the SpyraThree is still my favorite product by Spyra. This is due to 2 factors, 1st the SpyraGravity is way too large (not hard for me to use it but too large regardless - just check the above picture) and 2nd just 4 SpyraBlast water bombs is far from enough if you're playing with friends (stopping to reload even if you have purchased extra SpyraBlast water bombs is far from ideal). I was really hoping for either a horizontal or vertical (cartridge) reload system for the SpyraGravity which would allow for at least twice the amount of water bombs but that would probably further increase its size (and would also probably increase cost). That aside I really had fun using the SpyraGravity, especially when reaching people taking cover behind objects (or running away), something which obviously is not possible with regular water blasters. The load mechanism did get stuck a few times but out of the 300+ I used the SpyraGravity for this was nothing. As for battery life no problems here, charged both SpyraGravity launchers once since I received them and have yet to charge them again, so I have no reason to doubt Spyra's number. If I had to nitpick I’d like to see larger water bombs but that would mean an even larger SpyraGravity, can’t have it all I guess (still, I do hope Spyra makes a gatling water blaster next).

Spyra currently has their products for sale and so the SpyraGravity can be yours for just USD87.20/87.20Euros, a price tag which is honestly great for such a product. Yes, the SpyraThree is still my favorite model but the SpyraGravity does deliver (at least for the most part) so if you like the concept or you'd just like to try something new I truly suggest checking the latest SpyraGravity water bomb launcher which is also why it gets the Golden Award.
