Portable batteries used to recharge your portable devices, tablets and smartphones have been around for quite some time now but even so i don't really see that many people using them when I’m on the road. Personally i use 3 portable batteries daily not only because i don't like having to remember to bring the same one along with me every time i go out (eventually i will forget) but also because one would need to be recharged three times as much so i have one placed behind the seat of my car, another in my backpack and a third one (the smallest of the three) in my shoulder wallet/bag. On the other hand out of all the people i know just 3 own portable batteries and only 1 of them actually carries it around with him in case of an emergency. Today’s review is about one such portable battery and more specifically the latest PowerBank released by Patriot the FUEL+ 7800mAh.

Both the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank which we have here today and its larger brother the 9000mAh model feature Lithium-Ion rechargeable battery packs which can be used to charge small and large devices from MP3/4 players, Bluetooth earsets and smartphones and up to tablets via their dual USB outputs (5V1A/5V2.5A). Of course with most tablets featuring batteries well over 8000mAh in capacity the 7800mAh version which we have here is hardly enough even to charge one of those once (the 9000MAH model is far more suitable) so personally I’d recommend this particular model for use with smaller devices like smartphones since it should be able to give an Samsung Galaxy S4 (2600mAh battery) up to 3 full charges. However capacity is not the only thing that matters when choosing the right portable battery so let's get close and personal with the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank.

CONCLUSION

fuel plus 7800mahb

Testing a portable battery is very easy but it requires quite a bit of time especially if you redo all tests a total of 6 times like we do. However things can get quite easier when you have many portable batteries around and currently in our testing grounds we have 9 different models ranging from 3200mAh and up to 23000mAh so testing the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank took slightly over 2 days with very positive results. As always and as expected we didn't manage to hit the maximum rated battery capacity (7800mAh in our case) but according to our calculations after using it with several smartphones, tablets and other portable batteries the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank actually has a valid capacity of 5200-5400mAh (capacity may slightly vary from device to device) which is not bad at all when compared to the advertised capacity. The dual USB ports is a nice touch for people who want the device to charge both their smartphone and tablet and i expect more manufacturers to follow the same path as Patriot.

Roughly two years ago portable batteries with capacities at around 8000mAh used to cost quite a bit but as with most electronics after a while things changed and so today you can have the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank for just USD52.98 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and 58Euros inside the EU (Amazon.co.uk). Overall Patriot has designed and manufactured a very good portable battery ideal for people who may need to carry it around inside their wallet/purse something which is not always possible with some larger models. Sure 7800mAh is not really much by today’s standards not when there are models with capacities up to 23000mAh but for an emergency it's more than just sufficient. So thanks to its very good build quality, portable size, good design, 7800mAh lithium ion battery and a very tempting price tag the FUEL+ 7800mAh PowerBank by Patriot walks with our Golden Award.
