INTRODUCTION
Just like with everything else in the electronics market thanks to various technological advances input devices like keyboards and mice have also evolved quite a lot over the years. Yes, they may not have reached new heights as for example have CPU's, GPU's and even LCD screens but the introduction of optical/laser sensors, mechanical switches, macro keys and RGB lighting over the years have significantly improved not only their performance and durability but also their looks. This has also allowed for a large number of manufacturers, both old and new, to flood the market with gaming keyboard and mice. AQIRYS is one of the latest players to enter the PC peripherals market and with me i have their latest wireless gaming mouse, the T.G.A.
AQIRYS is about IT products and hardware dedicated to gaming. Our solutions are developed and perfected by a passionate team with over 15 years of expertise in the IT & gaming industry, heavily focused on variety, quality, and affordability. We all are avid gamers, some of us even reaching pro levels. Top that with the excitement for PC modding and overclocking that was well established through our parent company about 13 years ago (the first company in our country to receive the NVIDIA SLI certification). The whole experience we amassed from gaming and crafting super high-end PC’s is now put to work in developing the AQIRYS products. Our final goal is to deliver these products in a cool, dynamic way to people who are keen or enthusiastic about PC gaming and modding, making them feel more satisfied than before. Welcome to AQIRYS! The galaxy of gaming tools that will lead you to victory!
As AQIRYS points out T.G.A stands for "The Great Annihilator" (which in turn takes its name from a micro quasar) and that's clearly not a bad name for a gaming mouse. Under the hood of the T.G.A we once again find the popular PAW3370 optical sensor by Pixart which features a resolution of 19.000DPI (dots per inch), 400IPS (inches per second) tracking speed, 50G acceleration, 1000Hz polling rate, 1-2mm lift-off-distance and a 0.5% error rate (no hardware acceleration). AQIRYS has also outfitted the T.G.A with replaceable/modular top parts (black, blue and white are included in the box), adjustable click feedback for the primary keys (via 16 bundled spacers) splash-proof PCB coating, Kailh switches for the two primary buttons (up to 80 million clicks), single addressable RGB LED zone with 6 effects, 2.4GHz wireless technology (USB dongle included), 6 programmable buttons, 580mAh rechargeable battery (up to 50 hours of use) and a 1.8 meter long braided cable. Well, this is the very first gaming mouse I’ve received by AQIRYS so let's see what it has to offer.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
As expected, the front of the box is taken by a large product picture, the company logo and the main product features.
The left side of the box also has the main product features listed in 12 languages and just two pictures showcasing the extra modular parts.
All 9 modular parts included in the package are showcased on the right side.
A large product picture together with two smaller ones are used at the rear to showcase the main product features.
A message by AQIRYS is the first thing you'll see once you remove the exterior cover of the box.
The mouse is placed inside a piece of black foam covered by a piece of cardboard while the rest of the bundle is located right beneath it inside another cardboard box.
Inside the box AQIRYS has placed the T.G.A wireless gaming mouse with its USB dongle, 7 extra modular pieces, 1.8 meter long braided USB-C cable, USB-A to USB-C expansion adapter, 16 button spacers, replacement PTFE feet, rubber stickers for the top body of the mouse (only for 1 set of covers), thank you paper, 5 stickers with the company name and logo and the user manual.
THE T.G.A
Measuring 120mm in length, 63.5mm in width and 39mm in height the 76g heavy T.G.A is a medium sized model.
Two programmable thumb buttons are located on the left side most of which is perforated.
The rear is also perforated and at its lower end we see the single zone RGB LED.
Just like the left side the right side is also entirely perforated (minus the buttons).
At the top of the T.G.A we find the typical DPI selection button (also programmable).
The USB-C port is located right in front of the rubber coated clickable scroll wheel (also RGB illuminated).
Turning the mouse over we see the two large PTFE feet along with the on/off/lighting switch and the PAW3370 optical lens.
Removing the top parts of the T.G.A is very easy (just pull them).
Here you'll also find the 2.4GHz USB dongle required to use the T.G.A wirelessly.
The bundled modular parts are a nice touch obviously.
The 1.8 meter long braided cable may not be gold plated but it's of good quality overal.
RGB illumination is limited with the T.G.A but i guess it's better than none at all (via the switch at the base you can also disable lighting to conserve battery).
CONTROL SOFTWARE
Much like with most gaming peripherals you should download the control software from the AQIRYS product page.
The first tab allows you to remap all buttons of the T.G.A and save your selections to different profiles.
Second tab allows you set the 6 DPI selection presets, adjust the DPI lighting effects, set the USB polling rate and LOD, enable/disable ripple control and angle snapping and control the windows mouse parameters.
There's also a macro commands tab which does what the name clearly suggests.
Finally, the lighting tab allows you to select one of the 6 RGB effects, set colors manually, adjust brightness and effect speed, turn off lighting when the mouse is moving (to conserve battery) and set the auto sleep timer.
Also, from the upper left corner you can see the driver version.
CONCLUSION
A 2.4GHz wireless gaming mouse with a range of 10 meters, a blazing fast optical/laser sensor, durable primary keys and RGB lighting may not be something we haven’t seen quite a few times in the past already but AQIRYS took things bit further with their T.G.A model. I am of course referring to the extra modular parts, adjustable click feedback, splash-proof PCB and its wireless battery life. Yes, the modular parts are not of the best possible quality and unless you have its lights turned off at all times battery life will never get close to the advertised 50 hours (with RGB lighting on at all times the most i recorded was just over 33) but both make the T.G.A stand out. The bundled spacers are not hard to mount but the primary mouse buttons worked well the moment i took it out of the box so i never even thought about using them. As for shape well the T.G.A follows the typical one used mostly in the market and that along with its medium size are things that my hands felt right at home with. Gliding was also very good on all 3 mats i used the T.G.A on but tracking accuracy is also something the PAW3370 optical sensor is primary in charge of obviously.
At the time of this review AQIRYS hasn’t really expanded their operations outside the EU (hardly even in the EU at this point) and so the T.G.A Wireless Gaming Mouse is basically just sold in Romania for around 84Euros (PC-Coolers). This price tag is more or less on par with what the competition asks for similar gaming mice but seeing that AQIRYS is a very new company i do think they would do well to try and cut that down a bit (if not now certainly when they expand to include other markets). Overall, i have nothing bad to say about the T.G.A Wireless Gaming Mouse by AQIRYS, yes, I’d like to see higher quality modular parts (still that would probably increase weight and AQIRYS may had wanted to avoid that) but other than that the mouse delivers on everything from wireless and wired use, excellent tracking accuracy, blazing fast speeds, RGB illumination (alas somewhat limited) and durable primary switches and for all of those it deserves the Golden Award.
