eizo ev2795 review a

With the exception of regular/casual consumers gamers, enthusiasts and professionals are always looking to get their hands on the best possible LCD monitor. Of course gamers, enthusiasts and professionals have vastly different priorities when looking for a new monitor so gamers and enthusiasts are usually mostly interested in high refresh rates, low response times, ultra-wide aspect ratios (21:9/32:9) and features like RGB lighting whereas professionals are always after the best color reproduction, crisp image quality and extra features like USB-C ports (either for charging of peripherals or for signal sharing via daisy chain) and vertical/portrait mode. Unsurprisingly gaming oriented LCD monitors vastly outnumber professional oriented ones but since quite a few of you asked last year today with me i have the latest offering by EIZO, the 27-inch FlexScan EV2795.

EIZO (TSE:6737), which means image in Japanese, is a visual technology company that develops and manufactures high-end visual solutions to enrich people in their professional and personal lives. EIZO offers total imaging solutions with a range of monitors, software, video capture, processing, and distribution solutions, cameras, and advanced integrated technologies, to meet the specialized needs of customers in business, creative fields, healthcare, air traffic control, maritime, security & surveillance, and more. Headquartered in Hakusan, Japan, EIZO has R&D and manufacturing facilities in Japan, China, Germany, and the United States, and representation in more than 90 countries.

Just like most LCD monitors by EIZO the 27-inch (68.5cm diagonal) FlexScan EV2795 is available in two colors (black and white), follows the typical 16:9 aspect ratio and is based on a LED-backlit IPS 8-bit panel that features a maximum resolution of 2560x1440p (QHD), 109ppi (pixels per inch), 60Hz refresh rate, 5ms (GTG) response time, 350cd/m2 maximum brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio and a color space covering sRGB (I don’t have the official sRGB and AdobeRGB numbers in hand, will update once I do). Aside its USB-C port which can be used to display video (daisy chain multi-screen setup), playback audio, transmit USB-Ethernet signals and supply power to connected devices (70W power delivery) the EIZO EV2795 also sports a single HDMI port (v2.0), single DisplayPort port (v1.2), Ethernet RJ45 Gigabit port, 3 USB 3.1 ports and a single 3.5mm headphone mini jack. Other features include a light sensor (auto brightness control), KVM switch (keyboard/mouse), EcoView technology (power and CO2 reduction), TUV certified flicker free and low blue light technologies, non-glare matte panel and two front facing speakers (1W each - stereo). Finally, EIZO covers the FlexScan EV2795 with an impressive 5 year limited warranty and a zero bright pixels warranty for a period of 6 months.

PACKAGING AND CONTENTS

eizo ev2795 review 1t

As usual the monitor arrived inside a plain cardboard box that has the company logo and model name at both the front and back.

The serial and part numbers and barcodes are printed on stickers located on the left side.

Packing is pretty much excellent with the screen wrapped inside a synthetic cloth and placed between 3 thick foam spacers.

Along with the FlexScan EV2795 you'll also receive a power cord, USB-C to USB-C cable, user manual and several regulatory, precautionary and warranty information papers.

THE FLEXSCAN EV2795

The 27-inch FlexScan EV2795 has a diagonal of 68.58cm and is 61.4cm wide.

One thing worth pointing out is that EIZO is not using paint for their screens and that's easier to notice when looking at the ring base with their logo on it.

The EV2795 is of course height adjustable and so at its lowest point it's just 1cm from the desk (36.86cm tall) and roughly 20cm at its highest point (55.85cm tall).

Aside being able to pivot (left/right 90 degrees) and swivel (left/right 172 degrees) the screen you can also tilt it (35 degrees backward and 5 degrees forward).

A professional LCD monitor couldn't skip on the portrait function so here it is (and again you can tilt the screen at the same degrees).

Taking a look at the rear of the screen we find a convenient carrying handle and the same stand/base as with the EV3285 model (VESA mount 100x100mm is supported).

Three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and a single 3.5mm jack are located on the right side of the screen.

Moving at the bottom we find the on/off switch and the power port on the left side whereas on the right side we see the RJ45 LAN port, HDMI v2.0 port, DisplayPort v1.2, USB 3.1 host port, and two USB-C ports (upstream 70W/downstream 15W).

EV2795 MENUS

eizo ev2795 review 21t

The OSD is almost identical to that of the EV3285 and so once again you can access it from the far left touch button as seen above.

From the first menu you can change between USB-C, DisplayPort and HDMI inputs.

Once again, this screen comes ready with 4 picture presets plus 2 user/custom ones.

From the second tab you can enable/disable the EcoView function and check to see the results in power and CO2 savings.

You can also quickly adjust the volume of the front facing stereo speakers and the brightness levels from here.

Image settings can be accessed from the main menu.

From the color tab you can adjust the color mode, brightness and contrast levels, temperature and gamma.

Screen ratio, color format and input range can all be accessed from inside the signal tab.

Features like daisy chain, menu rotation, power save and power indicator can be adjusted from the preferences menu (you can also reset the monitor to its factory state from here).

Again, the OSD is available in 9 different languages.

Finally, some details about the screen are present inside the information tab.

VIEWING ANGLES / PICTURE QUALITY

ev2795 image quality 4t

In terms of viewing angles, the EV2795 offers exactly what you’d expect by a high-performance IPS panel (I should had placed the keyboard behind the screen for optimal results).

It may seem like I’m repeating myself but again viewing angles aside what really stands out with the FlexScan EV2795 is image quality and color accuracy/vividness (once again I’m including full sized pictures taken with the Nikon D3500).

Color vividness is perhaps more evident while gaming and even though 60 frames may not be nearly enough for many people, I had no issues with that (still I didn’t play very fast passed titles). However, this isn’t a gaming screen, only reason I always like playing games while testing LCD monitors is to see if there’s apparent ghosting/delay and here I can’t say I noticed that.

TEST RESULTS

DATACOLOR SPYDERX ELITE MEASUREMENTS

gamut

By using the SpyderX Elite Colorimeter by Datacolor i measure both the color gamut (SRGB and Adobe) and the brightness levels of the monitor at hand.

Here you can see results for Color and Luminance Screen Uniformity (instead of just listing results at 100% brightness I’m listing all of them - 50/67/83/100%).

Datacolor rates monitors based on their overall results so it was decided to include this chart as well.

POWER CONSUMPTION

Power consumption may not be what most people look for when out to get a brand new monitor but at the end of the day it's still an important factor so i do hope this is of interest to some of you.

CONCLUSION

eizo ev2795 review b

Even though i do take more than 3000 pictures per week with my D3500 and 800D DSLR cameras i don't really consider myself to be a professional photographer (far from it). Still i do appreciate color accuracy and crisp images just as much as the pros and this is where the FlexScan family has always delivered. Of course, this also holds true for the EV2795 model which actually had me talking about its vivid colors (and accuracy) and crisp image reproduction to some of my friends long after i finished this review a couple of weeks back. Unfortunately, this is not a gaming monitor, primarily due to its 60Hz refresh rate but also because of its 5ms GTG response time. Honestly size has begun to also be an issue for me lately but only because I’ve been using 35/40/49-inch screens in both the office and at home so going back to something smaller (much smaller at that) is not easy for my eyes (this is just me of course, i don't expect people looking for a 27-inch screen to be in the same predicament). The only “issue” i had with the FlexScan EV2795 was with its recorded brightness levels vs the advertised ones. Yes, the difference is not huge but i was expecting slightly more than just around 270cd/m2 (still no problems during testing). As for build quality not much to say here, it’s an EIZO after all.

EIZO has always been the “Mercedes” of LCD monitors not just due to their build quality and superb support but also because of the wealth of features one can’t find on most (if not all) equivalent models from their competition. So naturally EIZO screens have never been quite “affordable” and yes at a current price set at around USD1050 inside the USA and 723Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) the FlexScan EV2795 isn’t that either. Still, we also need to keep in mind that these LCD monitors are aimed primarily towards professionals so price doesn’t matter nearly as much as it does to for example gamers. At the end of the day the EIZO FlexScan EV2795 is a very good QHD LCD monitor that packs numerous high-end features making it ideal for professionals and since it really delivers it gets the Golden Award.
