INTRODUCTION
Believe it or not even though i spend almost 2 decades sitting in front of game consoles and computers using regular chairs for the past 5-6 years or so finding the ideal chair for me has become one of my highest priorities. Even after using and testing well over 40 gaming and office chairs I’ve yet to find the one for me and honestly even if i had I’d always look for something even better. Roughly a month ago i tested the V1 Ergonomic Office Chair by Sihoo (review here) which did extremely well especially in terms of comfort something which i didn't really expect, not by a company i knew nothing about until then. Still, it did and since some of you came forward and asked for more reviews by them today with me i have V1's lower-spec brother, the M90D.
Since established in 2011,Sihoo Furniture is always committed to becoming a professional ergonomic furniture provider, providing ergonomic furniture for the study, work, and entertainment of users around the world. Our products include ergonomic office chairs, children's study tables, and chairs, game chairs, etc. In order to ensure that our users get high-quality products, Sihoo has established an Ergonomics Research Institute to create a whole industry chain system integrating design, manufacturing, marketing, quality testing, storage, transportation, and installation. After years of development, Sihoo has become a professional ergonomic furniture brand and is loved by users all over the world.
Just like with the V1 the M90D by Sihoo is both BIFMA and SGS certified, is currently available in dark, light gray and red with black colors and is also available in most places all over the globe. Also, i may have said that the M90D is V1's lower-spec brother but it really has a plethora of interesting and useful features including a height adjustable seat, height adjustable backrest (6cm lift - ideal for people up to 1.9m in height), 3D armrests (adjustable height, position and orientation), height and angle adjustable double-joint elastic headrest, adaptive waist/lumbar support, 130 degrees backrest recline and supports a maximum load of up to 150Kg. Once again ergonomic chairs like the V1 and the M90D may not look on par with some gaming chair models (even quality sometimes may not be quite the same) but their sole goal is to provide the end user with a healthy sitting posture. Only remaining question is just how good the M90D Ergonomic Office Chair by Sihoo really is.
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES
PACKAGING AND CONTENTS
Sihoo has again used a large cardboard box to ship the M90D chair in the front and rear of which are both taken by a drawing showcasing the various recline positions.
On the two sides we find several warning icons along with the model name and weight.
Unfortunately packing inside the box is not great (still seems good enough since the chair made it here in one piece).
The first thing I took out from the box was the 5-star aluminum base followed by the double-joint elastic headrest.
The seat height adjustment mechanism was next with the class-3 gaslift.
Sihoo ships the M90D with its 3D armrests not attached to the seat so they were next.
A pair of fabric gloves, mounting screws and the installation guide were all packed together.
Next was the backrest and the 5 caster wheels.
Final piece was the seat.
ASSEMBLY
As with all my past chair reviews i started by mounting the 60mm caster wheels onto the 5-star aluminum base (according to Sihoo this base has also passed a 1136kg static pressure test – just like that of the V1) followed by the class-3 gaslift.
Even though I do prefer 70mm caster wheels the 60mm ones seen here are also nice.
Next, I attached the 3D armrests onto the seat as seen above.
Turning the seat over we see that the height mechanism requires four screws for mounting.
Each of the two 3D armrests requires 3 screws.
Here you can see the height adjustment mechanism mounted.
Attaching the backrest to the seat requires using 3 Allen screws (there's a bit of leeway here so you might want to try various positions first).
The armrests can extend up to 7cm upwards, can move forward and backwards again 7cm and can rotate as seen above.
Thanks to the special design of the adaptive waist/lumbar support piece it’s actually even more comfortable out of the box than that used with the V1.
As mentioned earlier the backrest is hight adjustable up to 6cm.
FINISHED LOOKS
In terms of size and even looks the M90D is very similar to the V1.
The backrest is dressed with a breathable nylon mesh whereas the seat features a nice fabric cover.
Worth pointing out is that the nylon covered double-joint elastic headrest is both height adjustable and can rotate to fit the position of your head.
You can recline the M90D up to 130 degrees as seen above (most of this is achieved by the backrest).
Turning the chair around we find the company logo right at the center (design-wise the rear looks very nice).
SCORE
Many of you recommended (including some manufacturers) that I place a chart pointing to the pros and cons of each gaming chair that finds its way to the lab. Now of course since there's really no way for me to "benchmark" gaming chairs i decided to rate them based on their size, comfort and quality after using each chair for at least one full week. Size and comfort usually go hand to hand (the larger the chair the more comfortable it usually is - that however also depends on the amount of padding and also the type and quality of the cover) while in terms of quality having tested dozens of models over the past years, i think i have a good idea about that as well. Of course, these scores are based on my personal opinion (always based on the samples i get – isolated/early sample issues are always possible) so do take them with a grain of salt.
CONCLUSION
The V1 may be among Sihoo’s top ergonomic office chair models but after spending a full month with the M90D it’s clear that it’s just as comfortable, if not even more. The reason I say this is because the V1 requires you to “play” with the manually adjustable lumbar support until you find the right position for you whereas the M90D does that automatically. Yes, the lumbar support of the M90D is not quite as versatile since it’s fixed (doesn’t move up and down and you can’t adjust its intensity) but you can offset part of that thanks to the height adjustable backrest (1cm more adjustable height compared to that of the V1). Everything else from the headrest to the 3D armrests (the V1 has 4Dremains roughly the same as with the V1 which is why these two chairs are quite similar. Yes, the lack of a foot rest and an adjustable seat are important factors but these may not be worth the difference in price. The sole thing i found wrong with the M90D was the amount of padding on the seat, something which i also noticed with the V1. It's good for 2-3 hours but afterwards it begins to feel uncomfortable so you need to take a break (this isn't really bad but again, you may not want to). Needless to say this has to do with weight but considering that i weight roughly 90Kg i don't think this should be an issue for me.
So, just how much does the M90D Ergonomic Office Chair cost? Well, currently you can get your very own for USD369.99 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 299.99Euros inside the EU (Amazon.de) a price tag which is almost half compared to the V1 model. As you can imagine this is a large difference and honestly even though i do believe that the V1 is a better chair overall the M90D clearly offers a better price/performance ratio. All said and done the M90D may not be the perfect ergonomic chair but the features it packs do provide a much more comfortable experience for the end user and for that it deserves the Golden Award.
