CONCLUSION
After almost two months of serious testing although we feel that smanos can further improve the W020i WiFi Alarm System it's indeed a very easy way to secure a small structure such as a home or an office. The reason i say small is because unfortunately we found out the hard way that just two wireless sensors are nowhere nearly enough to secure a large structure (between all the doors and windows here we needed 8) but since the central unit can handle up to 10 remote controls and 30 sensors you can always add more if you want (smanos also has a large selection of motion and environmental sensors available for all needs). Of course you need not buy extra remote controls since via the smanos android/iOS app you can control the W020i from your smartphone or tablet but i really can't deny that the remote control came really handy while testing (not to mention that for older people this is the way to go). Now when alarm is engaged the piercing sound of the siren may not be as loud as the ones installed on the exterior of buildings but it's not something one can endure for long (yes it’s quite annoying) and i was actually really surprised to see it come from such a small device (and if that's not enough for you smanos also sells extra interior/exterior sirens). I still don’t know why smanos didn’t place an Ethernet RJ45 port at the rear of the W020 (although the L020 model does have one) but I think that both wired and wireless capability is something many people would like to have (for example I’d like to be able to use both). Likewise I don’t know why smanos didn’t use a WiFi camera model with IR LEDs at the front since as you all saw in the previous page without any lights on the IP6 can’t do much. Audio quality although far from perfect is ok on both ends i guess for such a small IP camera (although it would be nice to have a slightly more powerful speaker) even more so if we take into account that we have several IP cameras here that cost many times more but have no build-in microphones and speakers. Now I can’t really comment on how long the sensors will get to work with their stock batteries but two months have passed since we installed them here and no problems still (I do hope they last for much longer though).
Although each of the DS2300 sensors costs roughly USD25/20Euros the total cost for the W020i WiFi Alarm System is actually not that great and so it currently retails for USD229 inside the USA (Amazon.com) and for 190Euros inside the EU (Amazon.co.uk). Things get even better if you take into account that the IP6 WiFi Camera on its own costs roughly USD120/130Euros so in terms of pricing we’re actually quite satisfied. We all think that smanos can further improve on it by “looking” into the things we mentioned in this review but since at the end of the day we did enjoy using it (for the most part anyways – annoyed by those smart app errors) we give it our Golden Award.
